Just an interesting thought, which is slightyl off-topic. With all the backslapping from Microsoft about the fact that the 360 has sold about 11m in two years and the whole world seemingly sneering at the under-performing PS3 which is a flop, isn't it fair to say that with 4-5m sold in one year, it is actually selling ROUGHLY at the same rate as the 360?

Even with the handicap of no stellar exclusives? Just thinking.

I said it last week that SMG were worrying. More worrying is that SMG pratically did nothing for Wii Hardware sales so Nintendo Japan is having a hard time attracting the core gamer. While the DS has got the casuals and core gamers the Wii has not achieved this yet. I have no idea how nintendo market the Wii in Japan but if SMG is struggling to attract the core gamer what game will?

I think SMG will struggle to sell 1 million copies.

looks like Nintendo are gonna need the Wii Fit buyers to pick up SMG at the same time.

I got a horrible feeling that No More Heroes is gonna bomb when it is released next month. game looks cool but I cannot see it selling that well.

Not necessarily. You'd usually expect your first your on the market to be your best, with periodic bumps along the way as price cuts take effect or key software gets launched (like Halo 3).

The other factor is that the 360 was hampered by stock shortages in the early months - something which never plagued the PS3. A better comparison would be to compare the 360's first year on the market with the PS3's first year.

I don't have the numbers, but I'm sure someone can enlighten us!

@ kobashi - "More worrying is that SMG pratically did nothing for Wii Hardware sales"

Isn't that probably due to console shortages worldwide? They're still selling as quickly as Ninty can make 'em, so I doubt they're worrying just yet.

I hear what you are saying. The point is that both consoles had situations that were not ideal. And for the most part I can't be bothered to get into the argument about which console sells more. But I just thought that with the numbers that are being quoted, the 360 is not quite smashing the opposition as decisively as you would expect.

I mean, on paper you have all the ingredients that make a market leader. Loads of GOOD games, some exclusives and a cheaper console. Take into account the gamerscore phenomenon and you'd think that it is game, set and match.

Now, if you want to compare the first 12 months of sales for each console, fair enough, we'll probably see the 360 edging the PS3. But with all those positives, I'd really expect a crushing, resounding gubbing. Wouldn't you?

But ah well, I'll just play a bit of The Darkness and watch bemused as forum posters argue about which console is best.

no not really mate. there is no shortage in Japan. Wii sales have been on a decline for a while so it was predicted SMG would give it a real sales boost but it has not happened yet.

Wii Fit is released 2nd december I think. Hardware will probably reach crazy sales numbers once that is released.
