Mario Kart SNES coming to US VC News

Wii News by Ellie Gibson

23 November, 2009

Classic SNES racer Super Mario Kart is set for a Virtual Console release in the US.

According to Gamespot the 17 year-old game will cost 800 Wii Points (around £6 / €8).

Also on the way to VC are Pilotwings, another SNES title, and Nintendo 64 hit Super Smash Bros. There's no word on a price for those yet, or when we can expect to see the trio of games on the European Virtual Console - but we'll keep you posted.

THE best Mario Kart, when MK was a racing game first, a party game second.

I see Nintendo is using SMK's own bloody lethal catch-up-logic to get a re-release after all these years.

Isn't Super Smash Bros. already on our EU Virtual Console? I'm positive I've purchased that for my boy.

I'm also under the impression that Super Mario Kart is also available - but I could be wrong.

Edit: +1 on Matt's Yoshi Island call...

Edit2: Apparently Super Smash Bros. is already available for us Europeans.

Unless we get the games in the next 10 days It'll be roughly 2 months before we get them the luck we have for the really big SNES titles so far. I still remember hearing Zelda ALTTP and Super Metroid being released in the USA weeks before we got them.
Hope I'm wrong though.

Is there any reason why they couldn't charge 1000 points for it and give us 8 player online capabilities, as well as an online battle mode for this?

They hava a chance, much like what Super Mario Bros Wii has done and inject fresh life into a classic and I'll bet you they don't bother their arse...

Here's to another wasted opportunity Nintendo. What good is the vitality sensor when your originality contingent doesn't even have a pulse?

They probably didn't release Mario Kart on VC until now because they wanted the wii version to sell as well as possible,
think about it.
Also would like confirmation or at least a source on which version of Pilotwings is coming please eurogamer !
