Mario Kart reclaims Top 40 pole
Wii and DS continue to dominate.
Mario Kart Wii has reclaimed top spot from Wii Fit in the UK All-Formats Top 40 according to the latest Chart-Track data, reproduced below.
Sales of Nintendo's plumber-led kart racer rose 6 per cent week-on-week, which was enough to topple Wii Fit, which slumped 24 per cent in the other direction and ended up second.
Not quite Usain Bolt from either, then, but also enough to see off resurgent Olympic opposition from Beijing 2008 and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, no doubt buoyed by events in China and in at three and four respectively.
Nintendo's evergreen Wii Play rounds out the top five, unmoved from last week, while Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock stands firm at six, last week's number two Soulcalibur IV stumbles to seven and Big Beach Sports, Brain Training and Guitar Hero: On Tour make up the ten.
Nintendo has now claimed nine of the last 19 number one slots, according to Chart-Track data, and seven of the top ten are exclusive to one or both of its key formats.
Elsewhere in the Top 40 there's a new entry for Madden NFL 09 at 17, and 49 Games' Olympics pretender Summer Athletics makes it to 25, but otherwise the chart's much the same as last week, with the exception of 42 All-Time Classics' re-entry at 39.

I thought the recently released PS3 Platinum titles would make an appearence, but apparently not. Unless maybe they were all released this month.
Casual this and causal that; congrats to Nintendo for dominating the list completely, but seriously: not a lot of games in the top ten I'd concider apart from maybe Guitar Hero III and perhaps Soul Calibur. Not saying that I'm anybodys definition of a hardcore gamer or anything, but I still find that all the titles in the top 14 are either twee tie-in showelware releases, twee ninty exclusives, a Guitar Hero cash-in - or Soul Calibur 4. Just an observation.

I like all 3 consoles, I like the selection of games for all 3, so I think we all win in some way. Unless you were that guy Brandon on Mario Kart last night, who me and my sister kept lapping. You didn't win on any level.

Mario Kart is a good game, but this just shows that most people own Wii which is probably just a reflection of the price and advertising. I cannot wait for the motion plus.
