Mario Kart details 'speculation'

Official mag holds up hands.

Official Nintendo Magazine has held up its hands and apologised for getting a bit over-excited about potential features in the Wii version of Mario Kart.

Issue 21 of the mag says the game will let you take part in 16-player online battles, pull-off mid-air stunts and race on all of the DS tracks in revamped form.

However, according to a statement issued to Eurogamer, it turns out this is all "merely excitable speculation" based on the Mario Kart trailer shown at this year's E3.

"The details printed in Official Nintendo Magazine 21 regarding Mario Kart Wii were healthy speculation on our part and are in no way an official announcement from Nintendo," the statement reads."We are sorry if we have misled anyone."

Mario Kart Wii is currently scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2008.

Anything with the word "Official" in it's name sells, regardless of quality.

Indeed. Hard facts are overrated these days. From game magazines to economics to politics, it's all speculation anyway!

    "Currently second quarter 2008".

Believe that when its on the shelves, I would bet not before November 2008 at earliest for UK

Off topic but still Mario related :) . I have just pre ordered Paper Mario from shopto. Anyone tell me if they are any good at pre orders, and if you have to sign for goods on delivery (will be a nuisance If you do)

teh lies. Gaming websites are becoming like tabloid news papers, printing BS all the time. CVG being the worsed. The other day they were running videos of four Mario Galaxy levels on the front page. Each one around 6 minutes long and full of spoilers, they will do anything to get hits. Even ruin one of the biggest games of the year, what kinda effing gaming site does that?.

One that doesn't force you to click the links to the videos featured?

They should have put up spoiler warnings tbh.

It's a Mario game, not Final Fantasy or something. Isn't it supposed to be about gameplay? It shouldn't matter whether you've seen a level to have fun playing it. If it does, then they've possibly diverged from the Mario template worse than ever before.

I bought this mag, was the only one i could find, i hope games magazines aren't dying - but me being on this site now suggests they might be.

It over rates everything horribly. Any magazine that gives Boogie a positive review can't be good.

All this stuff is pretty likely though. 12 players appeared to be what was shown in the E3 vids, but 16 is a rounder number (in gaming terms). Plus of course, why wouldn't they add the DS tracks? That would be so easy it would be pointless not to do it...

Obviously this is far from fact (unless, which is possible, the magazine spilled the beans before Nintendo wanted them to, and this is a cover up) but all of it seems very likely.

Oh dear. They're always getting a bit over excited and making stuff up and publishing it in their official magazine. Like in the launch issue:

"...we'll put our hands on our hearts and admit that last month we got a bit over-excited and printed some information that wasn't actually true" (March last year)

I'm pretty sure this month that they also said that the Weather Channel automatically shows you the current temp for your chosen city on the main screen, it, erm, doesn't.

So Mario Kart? 16 player online. Wicked.
