Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid this summer

According to Nintendo Australia.

Nintendo Australia has said that both Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M will be summer releases.

The platform holder has previously listed the new Metroid game, developed by Tecmo, in a summer slot, but Mario had always been down as 2010.

According to IGN (thanks VG247), Nintendo Australia's Greg Arthurton said neither was a holiday season release.

Instead Australian gamers - and presumably those of us elsewhere in the world as well - can expect to get our hands on them between June and August.

We've contacted Nintendo UK for clarification. The US version of the Nintendo Australia event where the news broke takes place today, while the European equivalent is tomorrow.

I'll believe it when I see it ninty. I'm sure you're just setting us up for a fall, then release "Super Casual EX Plus Alpha" and postpone MG2 and M:oM for next year.

Seems like an odd release date, I can see Metroid being a summer release but surely SMG2 will be a Chrimbo game? Whatever it's all good.

My first reaction when i read this on GAF was "not a chance".

People should be weary that a quote saying "They [mario and metroid] are not a holiday release" doesn't automatically translate to a "they are a summer release", unless of coarse he specifically said that they are coming in the summer.

Aww unfortunately Australia is southern hemisphere, so summer 2010 translates to december 2010. So merry Christmas...

    ^^ This.

Roll on Christmas. Bloody Nintendo. 3 years to make a Mario game.

@Ryboy: So how does your boycott work? Do you actually have a Wii to make boycotting Nintendo games matter?

SMG2 this summer?... I seriously doubt it. But of course, I will be pleasently surprised if I'm wrong :D

but surely SMG2 will be a Chrimbo game?

Compared to other Wii games SMG never sold that well, it certainly didn't seem to find the insane audience that Mario Kart or Wii Sports Resort have captures, so I imagine those that would buy it would do so regardless of time of year.

And there was me thinking that there was going to be a long dry period for great after the plethora of awesomeness that we have had so far this year. 2010 is simply the best year for games in a long time! :D

Hopefully this means that Nintendo will have Zelda out by Christmas after all! (Or perhaps something unexpected headlining their Christmas lineup for Wii!)

2 games to keep the hardcore happy then.

I maybe wrong here, but after the rather run away success that is Super Mario Bros Wii, they may have decided to get this one over and done and out the door a bit quicker than expected and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Super Mario Bros 2 Wii at Xmas (bit too soon possibly, but we'll see). I still think a lot of effort has gone into this game, but I doubt we'll be seeing another one like it for a while.

Mario = May. Metroid = June.

    Sweet.

Man I'm so glad I sold my wii a year ago and got a ps3! Like everyone else said, I'll believe it when I see it - and I won't buy another wii until metroid is ready.
