Mario & Sonic @ The Olympics is fast becoming the new Wii Sports - I've been to parties where they've just had a Wii running this game in the corner and it attracted a lot of attention from all sorts of people, it was crazy.

Mario Party 8 I just dont get though. I'm a big fan of the Mario Party games, but that one was absolute gash.
  • HyperShadow #4 4 years ago

I am impressed by this, although, there are a few weeks before Christmas for normal service to be reserved. If you know what I mean.
  • ShieldOfFaith #5 4 years ago

More mini game trash, Wii owners just can't get enough of it for some reason. Glad to see COD4 still selling well.

    My GOTY by this much

    MS are disgusting.
Spent all thier ad money on halo 3 posters on every bloody london bus, and not a single tv ad or poster for mass effect.

I swear, if mass effect turns out to be another shenmue (great game that did not get finished due to lacklustre sales), i will instantly swap my 360 for a ps3.

I can't deal with another shenmue situation.

SOE again saved by Japanese-developed IP. Great work masterminds. Maybe time to use the golden compass searching new jobs.
  • sickpuppysoftware #8 4 years ago

I'd have hoped to see uncharted do a bit better

No worries m8.. Mass Effect just hit 1M sold in 3 weeks worldwide (and is predicted to hit around 3M worldwide).

O'RLY? Have you got a link to that to ease my fears?
I generally don't care for games sales, however I really want mass effect to be completed as a game, as although I haven't finished it yet, it's easily my GOTY.

Anyone else notice the Mario & Sonic price hike? Most of the online shops with it in stock are now selling it for £40.
  • pyrat6 #14 4 years ago

    @shieldoffaith

    "More mini game trash,"

This is getting silly. You could slag off every Track and Field type game using that logic.

They are supposed to be short. Unless you want "Paula Radcliffe's Marathon" or "EA Sports 50K walk 2008"
  • macmurphy #15 4 years ago

Right then, is it any good? Been debating this one for a while. All I want is 'mini game trash', something for when friends come round as an alternate to Wii Sports. Not bothered if the single player is pish (I also have COD4, legend), just want to hear from people who've got it as to whether their friends/family like it as much as Wii Sports. This will be from my young nephews to my 60 year old folks. What do you reckon, worth a punt?
  • DonnieDarko333 #16 4 years ago

    Well Done!

Mario Party 8 in my opinion is the best one, the mini-games are much better because your much more involved in them!

    Great for Xmas!
  • Darren #17 4 years ago

Hurray for Sonic & Mario, a half-decent game at the top of the charts! :)

/keeps fingers crossed that it'll keep the mediocre NFS: ProStreet off the top spot over Christmas.
  • magicpocket #18 4 years ago

macmurphy - you wont be disappointed. It's great fun.
  • The-Bodybuilder #19 4 years ago

    @ pyrat6

I think his argument is that, up until now, no track game had ever become number, not even the official olympic games during the olympics, especially against the wealth of AAA games out now (mass effect, and it's very own mario galaxy).

Yet a track game on the wii becomes all-format number 1 against other AAA games? Also remember that mario party is outselling galaxy.

I mean really, what can anyone do, if ninty's own mario galaxy, arguably the biggest game in thier library, cannot beat mario party and a track-n-field game?
  • thiswaynow #20 4 years ago

Is it just me, or is Galaxy just really hard to find right now. In my part of the country it seems to be sold out everywhere, which I guess is why it's not charting.

My Mario & Sonic is wrapped ready for Christmas day, btw

For a change, French hardware sales to date:

    Wii: 1.100.000
    X360: 500.000
    Ps3: 270.000

I was being silly really .... I should have included smilies :) You are absolutely right. But it's often the way (especially at xmas) that mediocrity sells.

Anyway. What about Daley Thompson's Decathalon ! That was famous.

  • Beek4257 #23 4 years ago

    I agree with Darren:
As long as M&S can keep the diabolical (yes diabolical) Pro street from becoming Xmas nr. 1, I'll cherish (yes cherish!) it forever, no matter if it's any good or not.

It's like eliminating Germany from the World Cup. No offense to eurogamer.de's. It's just that your national football team gives me a migraine ...
  • FenderMaster #24 4 years ago

    poor uncharted...

if it was a bit longer i'd buy it...

... but i just cant justify E70 on a gme that only lasts 8 hours...
  • GrandpaUlrira #25 4 years ago

Mario Party 8 was heavily discounted in Gamestation, half price, so that explains why it shot up the table. I'm curious about Mario and Sonic though.
  • Landmaster #26 4 years ago

I thought Mario & Sonic would be shit considering the terrible reviews.

Maybe because i expected it to be so terrible, it's so good?

    I think not.
  • axman303 #27 4 years ago

Me and my hot girlfriend (she has the heater on a lot during the winter) got Mario & Sonic a week ago. Played through each of the default open events and found each one to be extremely tedious, with lumpen controls. Far too many events where you just shake the remotes up and down continually, which is both knackering and boring.

And why, oh why, did Sega decide that the B-Trigger button should be used to make the characters jump in the Hurdles? It doesn't feel natural, should have been the A-button.

I was hoping it would be as much multilayer fun and skillful as Track & Field (the arcade machine, of which, I used to have in my lounge), but it just didn't work for us. We love Wii Sports, but loathed Mario & Sonic enough to shove it on eBay the next day. This is one notch above Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, in terms of multilayer fun. And we all know how good that was...
  • Arcadiian #28 4 years ago

    @ Landmaster.

Mario & Sonic didn't get terrible reviews. The reviews were average.
  • Pulsar_t #29 4 years ago

COD4 is also full of linear mini-games where enemies keep spawning until you breach into a certain area.

    I simply hate COD4 :)

Btw why is Mario's name the first of the two? Pfft.
  • Sid-Nice #30 4 years ago

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is well on its way to sell the 4 million copies that Sega predicted. The game its self is an absolute scream especially watching replay's of your Mii competing.
  • smelly #31 4 years ago

    That's damned depressing.

Mario & sonic (which is average at best) at the top, and mario galaxy isnt even in the top ten!
  • The-Bodybuilder #32 4 years ago

    >"Anyway. What about Daley Thompson's Decathalon ! That was famous."

But not number one. Imagine if it sold more than super mario bros?
  • IronCladChicken #33 4 years ago

Imagine didnt make 'Daley Thompson's Decathalon' - it was Ocean
  • Hamshira #34 4 years ago

What a coincedence, the top two most heavily marketed games (the former on your right, the site banner, and the latter being plastered all over our red buses) sell like crazy. Why doesnt anyone read the bloody reviews? Educate yourselves people!
  • smelly #35 4 years ago

"Why doesnt anyone read the bloody reviews? Educate yourselves people!"

Because in the case of a lot of sites, the review is directly proportional to how much advert space there is.

Probably the same idiots that bought halo 3.

We should be celebrating that NFS isn't top near Christmas for once.

For what it's worth I find Mario & Sonic to be an absolute blast with 2 or 3 people, has finally replaced Wii Sports as the party game of choice. It's not a bad game by any means (and hasn't really reviewed badly, just average)

I guess the haters went after the game as for once they couldn't moan that Wii owners don't buy games.

Would love to know what's going on with Mario Galaxy though, it's going the way of Lego Star Wars in terms of availability. Play.com haven't had any steady stock since its release, Amazon have sold out, stock in actual physical stores is a bit random at best. I assumed it was selling in silly numbers considering it's relatively hard to get hold of.

I've also noticed that many stores have hiked the prices of Wii games in the past few weeks, I assume due to stock shortages. Particuarly online it's not very easy to find the popular Wii games at the moment.
  • FenderMaster #39 4 years ago

durr... if mario and sonic are in it its gotta be good!...
  • plastickitty #40 4 years ago

the reason why mario party 8 re-entered the chart is because gamestation was selling it half price last week at £17.49 and was heavily advertised so it was being snapped up.

it sold so well that we had to remove the game from the shelves and we only allowed to sell it to people who asked for it at the counter.

Expect it to drop out again this week as we ran out of stock but it'll be back at it's normal price of £34.99.

This week is lego star wars complete saga so that might be charted higher than usual next week tho it hasn't been nowhere near as popular.

Are you serious? This is hands down THE hardest game to get on the Wii.
