Manson and others for GH3 tomorrow

Metallica hints at dedicated spin-off.

Marilyn Manson is one of three artists from Interscope Records whose songs will be playable in Guitar Hero 3 from tomorrow.

His "Putting Holes in Happiness" track will be complimented by Flyleaf with "Tina" and AFI with "Carcinogen Crush". The Interscope pack costs 500 Microsoft Points (GBP 4.25 / EUR 6) on Xbox Live, and GBP 3.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Metallica leader Lars Ulrich also recently dropped power chord-sized hints that Activision was planning a Guitar Hero spin-off based around the band.

"There's an Aerosmith game out there that's super successful, and if somebody's gonna follow that up... We're talking, and it's exciting, and the people at Guitar Hero and Activision are rapidly becoming our best new friends in the world. You can put the rest of it together yourself," Ulrich told MTV Multiplayer.

This backs mounting evidence from June for the game, when Activision was spotted filing the title with the SEC.

I'd buy both of the discs (i.e. Aerosmith and Metallica), but not at 65 euros. For 39,99 though probably yes.

So there's a story that shit music is getting added to a shit game, yet the fact that SOAD ARE NOW ON THE ROCK BAND STORE!!!!!!!! was completely overlooked?
  • Der_tolle_Emil #4 4 years ago

SOAD in the Rock Band shop? Awesome!

Yup, BYOB and Toxicity (the track). Dunno when they appeared, was browsing last night and noticed them. BYOB on expert is fucking hard.

Don't you think that the Metallica spin-off should better be suited as a full band Guitar Hero World Tour expansion?

If that were the case, we would be given the chance to improve Ulrich's drumming :)

Excellent tip Zomoniac. I'll have to pick those up later. Those are going to be a lot of fun on vocals.

EG - you failed to mention that the Manson track is a shitty remix and not the original track.

Colour me unimpressed with the Manson "remix" - one of the worst things I've ever heard. I'm partial to a bit of Manson but that sucks arse big time. http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=o_Tm_TLgBI0

From what I understand, all three of these songs were originally available as DLC on the GHIII soundtrack CD - had a code in the sleeve. I know the Manson track was defo on there.

Give me Mechanical Animals album DLC please.. On Rock Band though

Mechanical Animals would be fantastic. Awesome album.

I also have to agree with the Manson DLC on GH3. The remix is horrible, not only to listen to but it also looks horrible to play. Typical GH3 layout - throw tons of notes at someone just to make it difficult and never mind that long gaps without a single note. It seems like a desperate attempt to somehow get it into GH3.

Why...The hell... Are these still not purchaseable individually?

Is there a severe IQ shortage at Activision or something?

@Der_tolle_Emil "and never mind that long gaps without a single note. ".... Totally agree - what's the point in that song? Perhaps they should rename it - Putting Holes in Notecharts

    A few thoughts.

First off, the album packs that Rock Band do make a full priced GH spin off seem rather overpriced. I suppose it is much cheaper than buying GH3 AND an album of DLC though. If they did both... then I would be impressed.

Which brings me neatly to my next, more important point. Are you listening Activision? Even though the Aerosmith release of GH was just the GH3 engine with a different hat on, none of the GH3 DLC tracks would show up within it. MADNESSSSSSS!!!

If online and DLC is where its at (and it is where its at Activision, even if you haven't realised that yet) what is the point of not letting the Aerosmith release use it. Anyone wanting to get onboard the GH experience via the Aerosmith disc, but then continue to GIVE YOU THEIR MONEY has to buy both GH:A and GH3.

Despite the GH peripherals being far superior, Rock band has handed Activision its own ass when it comes to getting the whole online side of things. If GH4 doesn't support GH3 DLC and allow you to import tracks from the GH3 disc, they might as well just give up (even though I know their peripherals will probably still be better this time around).

All in the brand though. How many of GH3's vast number of sales come from clueless parents buying the Wii version. GH4, at least, will sell very well indeed. If they fuck it up as much as they might, then 5 won't.
