MAG clips onto solid UK date

Plus: Eurogamer needs you!

Sony has confirmed what retailers suspected: that MAG will be released in the UK on 29th January.

UK community leader "MusterBuster" posted the news on the MAG forum (via VG247) today.

Some central Europeans will be playing the game from 27th January, the post adds, while Australians and New Zealanders will play from 28th January.

Nine days earlier than release, Eurogamer readers will help this website fight another website in a massive MAG tournament. Help us fight, enlist today.

MAG, for those that don't know, is a 256-player online multiplayer shooter for PS3. See what we thought of the 256-player in our hands-on report from the open beta.

If there arn't 256 people interested yet, then i can't see there being many full scale matches come release day.

Well, In order to make sure we have enough people on our team, we're going to invite slightly more than the 64 people required and also, you have to be able to get to the University of Westminster on 20th January. Personally I think they should hold something in the Birmingham area... or just send me a free copy of the game anyhow :)

Dont they just need 128 EG'ers.

Bad graphics, bad game play, bad netcode... Another win for Sony!

    @Teammallstar

You're not very subtle at being a massive fanboy cock are you?

Why are you even posting on this thread?

I believe M_of_the_sys is referring the day one server problems that befall all multiplayer games without exception when everyone comes back from the store and immediately tries to play.

I dunno but I don't think there's be much of a problem, during the beta I saw close to 15k people online and it was still smooth as silk. This game is practically an MMO really so maybe they're treating it as such when it comes to the servers. As for a day one purchase, I think I'm going to leave it a few weeks so that the people just trying it out go back to MW2 and we're just left with the people who play properly/seriously, tactics and objective taking rather than run/gun grenade spam. To me MAG is more of a thinking mans shooter, rather than a virtual meatgrinder like the COD series.

Well, my housemate loved the beta, so I suspect this will be on my TV by the 30th.
  • Mkwone #18 2 years ago

Graphics looked perfectly good to me. Gameplay seemes more than adequate aswell.

Not sure why this is getting such a bad press as it actually delivers
  • IMD1_Pk #19 2 years ago

The graphics are fantastic for what they are doing and I would be fine with it even it were only a 64 player game. I don't think it will do well though outside of a small niche because it needs to many players to know each other to develop good strategy. I liked the realistic approach they took to shooting as well.

Can't wait. The game isn't as responsive as MW2, but it more than makes up for it in teamplay strategy.

I'm expecting the first few weeks after launch to be tedious for two reasons though:

    1. Inevitable server/networking troubles.

    2. People choosing to play as lone wolves. Those who'll choose to stay for the coming months will be those who understand it as a team e-sport.

From my experience with the beta, it's delivering on it's ambitions already. Perseverance will pay off in this case.

MW2 was my first proper online experience. Naturally, it's been a revelation for me and I've been looking to this as my next big thing. From the videos I've seen, I admit that there are issues with it when compared to MW2, but that's tempered by having 128 players to shoot at!

Seriously, though, do the guns really sound as tinny in the game as they do in the videos? It's not a deal breaker but it's a fairly simple thing not to balls up.
  • Murton #22 2 years ago

youhavenomail: from playing the beta I'd say the guns sound fairly normal, I'd guess the sound issues you're hearing stem from the video rather than the game. Though for much of the beta I was wearing my headset so that I could co-ordinate with my squad so I may have missed any sound issues because of that.

Which brings me to another point, anyone who is serious about playing this game, get a headset if you don't have one already. You cannot underestimate the value of being able to call enemy positions to your squad or the ability to call for a medic or announce that you can rez. The importance of headsets counts double for officers obviously, a squad leader without a headset is a liability that's likely to cost your faction the match.

i do like this game alot and have it pre ordered, would have liked to go to the tourney but londons a way off for me aswell as having work in the way unfortunatly, all the best for team eurogamer, show em how its done!!
  • Slipstream #24 2 years ago

People who choose to tred the lone wolf path wont be playing for very long I'm sure, their frustration due to their lack of coordination will add to their increasing degredation...ahem and will ultimatley see them off of the servers for good I'm sure.

Really looking forward to MAG during the beta I found the optimum Field Medic set up, and when you play in harmony wth your squad, the sensation can be beautiful, even in a losing battle.
