Mafia II demo due out in August

Settling all of the formats' business.

2K Games has announced that a Mafia II demo will be released in August.

The game itself is out on 27th August and 2K's tweet said that the demo would be for all formats.

"It's official! A Mafia II demo is headed your way on PS3, 360, and PC this August. Stay tuned for an exact date!"

Mafia II is an open-world action-adventure with a difference - it's more of a period drama with a Grand Theft Auto-esque structure than a sandbox.

2K Czech has set out a serious story and keeps control of key ambient elements like the day-and-night cycle in order to accentuate the narrative.

Check out our Mafia II hands-on from this year's GDC for more details, or check out the footage below.

Great that all formats are getting a demo. The 360 version I've seen footage from looks amazing but I've got the PC version pre-ordered. It'll be nice to see how it performs before the game's release.

Definitely looking forward to the demo. Like to see how the cars handle.

The cars look very driveable and the swiss-cheeseing of that shack was cool. Definitely one to watch.

I have to say, my hopes for this game were greatly diminished when I heard it would be the size of just one of the islands from GTA IV. Graphically it will have to be impressively detailed and full of LOTS of side missions/activities if it's going to be any good. However, I loved the original Mafia and it nailed the time period and storyline perfectly. I still vividly remember the brilliant last few missions of betrayal and the ending was quite a shock!

@Soton4084 I actually think a smaller more focussed city might be better than the GTA IV approach. I found with GTA IV the city was so big I never really learnt the lay out that well of the roads. There were also many many areas I barely ever went too so it seems like a bit of waste really to put all that time into creating such large play areas if there is actually no reason to visit most of it.

Personally I think this was a big letdown. Even worse than Biggest Loser if that's possible.
