Mafia II Collector's Edition coming
DLC! Map! Soundtrack! Art book.
2K Games has revealed that Mafia II will be available as a Collector's Edition for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Each CE will feature a metallic SteelBook case, a hardback art book, a soundtrack and map.On top of that, "select UK retailers" will provide free downloadable content to those who pre-order the Collector's Edition. The DLC will get you two new luxury cars and two suits.
"By offering downloadable content and special editions of Mafia II, we are able to show our appreciation for those guys wise enough to reserve their copies early," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. He sounds jolly.
There's no word on a price for the Collector's Edition. We do know, however, that Mafia II will be released on 27th August. Visit the gamepage for all the business.

Keep your fake gifts. People who pre-order games these days are idiots, games are much cheaper a month after release and DLC they tempt you with is normally useless horse armour stuff anyway....kinda like two new luxury cars and two suits....

Yep, all those people who pre ordered red dead redemption are such idiots, what with them playing it right now while thousands of customers throughout the UK who didn't pre order are moaning that it sold out everywhere. I agree that offering items such as already made dlc in special editions and charging more is ridiculous as is in split/ second's case charging for an unlock code. These are things that should be free but occasionally, you do get a gem such as the Bayonetta gun or street fighter t shirt. I paid no extra for these items and both the games in question were always going to be day 1 purchases for me anyway. The only reason I got these items is through a pre order which was free and I was under no obligation to buy. By all means have a moan about the current trend of worthless dlc tied with some pre orders (free avatar t shirt, anyone? Woohoo!) but to take it out on people who actually pre order the games is just plain wrong!

Now, in a Collector's Edition, you get the game and an artbook (what used to be a printed manual in normal retail games..) and then they let you download useless crap and pretend that's worth something. On top of that they charge you like £90.
I am disappointed.

@mkreku, funny you should say it but I still have a couple of Infocom titles in my cupboard and they shipped with more interesting bits of paraphenalia than so-called special editions.

But, as long as people actually buy games this way, I doubt it'll change the mind of the industry.

There is nothing wrong with pre-ordering a game. Yes you might be able to get a game two or three months down the line cheaper (not always the case might i add).... but some of us want to play the key games on release, as its much more fun talking and discussing how you are playing the game with fellow gamers at the same time.... think of it as you being the only person to watch the last episodes of lost 6 months after everyone else has already seen it... its not as much fun
Of course if you want to buy games later, i have no problem with that, but please dont have a go at people who pre-order.
