BBFC clears MadWorld for sale in UK

Daily Mail bound to be pleased.

Controversial Wii game MadWorld has been given an 18 rating by the British Board of Classification, with no cuts made.

"Contains very strong, stylised, bloody violence," surmises the classification, highlighting the reasons behind Mediawatch-UK's outcry to the Daily Mail last year.

Support for the SEGA-published game proved strong, however, as showers of hostile emails from fans littered the media watchdog's inbox.

Nintendo also seems rather proud of the "sheer creativity" on offer in MadWorld, a title the platform holder hopes will appease the disgruntled hardcore Wii crowd during 2009.

Newly-formed developer Platinum Games is behind the game, having been formed in 2006 by ex-members of Clover Studio, which delivered gems such as God Hand, Okami and Viewtiful Joe.

Head over to our MadWorld preview to find out why we're rather excited.

MadWorld is due out exclusively for Wii this March.

    So, I wonder if this would have got clearance if it was published by Rockstar? Anyway, good news - this should be one of the more interesting Wii games of next year. I still need convincing with it, though.

    Typical shovelware party game nonsense for the Wii that'll only appeal to grannys and young girls.

    It goes to show that No More Heroes could have been published here with all the tasty tasty blood on show. Grrrr.
  • CallousB #4 3 years ago

    Excellent. Lets hope it a) gets good reviews b) they have a decent marketing budget for it.

    @FogHeart

    At least the sequel will have it all, although to be fair it didn't ruin any of the fun for me.

    > "So, I wonder if this would have got clearance if it was published by Rockstar?"

    Huh? I assume that's in reference to Manhunt 2 rather than say all the other 18 games Rockstar have had passed successfully... Poor, poor Rockstar.

    Bet its shit. If I didn't have a child about to turn 3 I'd think about selling my Wii.

    Typical shovelware party game nonsense for the Wii that'll only appeal to torture-porn movie fans and blinkered japanophiles.

    ... still, I'm prepared to eat my words and queue up for it if it defies my expectations.

    I didn't thnik the BBFC had much grounds for stopping it, it's too cartoony looking to really cause complaint. As long as neglegent parents look at the case and see the 18 rating, it should be fine.

    Although if you wanted to recreate the game, you'd have to eat black and white crayons first for a while to turn monocromatic.
  • Eraysor #11 3 years ago

    Probably the only new game I will buy on the Wii for this entire year.
  • Kazzahdrane #12 3 years ago

    Definately planning to try this, just got No More Heroes from LOVEFiLM so looking forward to trying that too.

    @Pac-man ate my wife
    Are you naturally a moron or do you have to work at it?
    Seriously the Daily Mail would employ you...

    @designerheadache

    I think the development costs for a Wii title, as opposed to a multi-platform PS3/360 are much lower. There are also plenty of "hardcore" people who have a Wii and will buy this. You yourself admit it looks good.

    @ Darkedge

    It. was. a. joke.
  • Santino #16 3 years ago

    That's great news, as much as i enjoyed the assasination parts of no more heroes, i felt a game of that style definitely would have benefited with the over the top blood of the US game. thankfully this game will be released as intended.

    on a side note...

    i wish all the Wii trolls that have taken over this site would just piss off or grow up, they really have been turning this place into a joke. whether it is a good review, a bad review, a news article, anything, they just come running and start slagging the console off as if they are on some kind of mission to try and somehow influence or convince people that their way of thinking is the only acceptable one. what is it exactly?

    yeh you cant have a thread on the wii on these forums without some twat trying to slate it. I just think they are the kinda people who don't realise its genius because they will never be able to experience it in its full glory (having loads of friends round and having a laugh)

    Is there a term for wanking off into someone's crying eyes? Because I'll need it soon.

    The derogatory comments from DB2K and designerheadache wont work whilst young kids are struggling with the Wii's controls, and as soon as they start school they want a Playstation.
  • robson_wii #22 3 years ago

    So why aren't Simpsons episodes with Itchy and Scratchy an 18 since it is very bloody and very violent in a cartoon sense? Does Mad World have other elements to it other than killing people in comical but violent way?

    And once again the Wii comes up with another game that is different and can appeal to a range of gamers. I hope it does well.
  • Incarta #23 3 years ago

    The guys behind Okami made this. It has to be good...right? Right!?!

    Just stick to the Wii forum here, fairly calm. The usual comment peeps probably wouldn't understand, but there are still those of us who are playing Wii Sports (and have been since launch), most people wouldn't notice, but there is immense depth in most of the games. It bodes well for the Motion Plus pack, because even with the normal remote with practice you can become eerily accurate in Tennis, for example.
