Mad Dog McCree looking likely for Wii News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

27 April, 2009

Old school laserdisc and arcade game Mad Dog McCree appears to be heading to Wii, if an ESRB rating for a Gunslinger Pack is to be believed.

"This is a first-person shooter featuring live-action scenes instead of traditional animation. Set in the Wild West, the game allows players to engage in gunfights with bandits, rescue innocents, and shoot objects for points. Players use crosshair targeting to fire their gun at various outlaws who yell, flail, and crash through the scenery," says the ESRB.

Word backs chatter from late last month, when GameFly online rental service also listed Mad Dog McCree for the Nintendo Console.

Majesco is rumoured to be the publisher and we're currently trying to find out more.

Mad Dog McCree swaggered into arcades in 1990, and used live-action sequences performed by real stuntmen and actors to captivate light gun, on-rails shooter fans.

The game has sprung up on various formats since, but suffers due to loading times between user input and game reaction. Blu-ray, we hope, can rectify this.

Christ, that takes me back. I put rather too much money into that game down my local pub, whilst spectacularly mismanaging my finances during my first year at Uni.

If they released Crime patrol, Mad dog and Space Pirates on one disc, I would almost be tempted :D

then again I already own the horrible DVD versions I got at a pound shop (worst control ever)

I always hated the laser disc games. Terrible playability once you got past the "ooooh! Live action!" thrill.

I can attest to the_dudefather's comments, as he inflicted these games on me.

The worst part is that I was willing.

BluRay on Wii - nice. I can't see that working, although it would spare people from being able to actually play it which I guess is a good thing.

I saw the Blu-Ray reference too. Wtf? Poor, poor journalism - as much as I do love Eurogamer.

First off all the Wii has no blu-ray, second all doesn't accessing data from blu-ray actually take longer than DVD?
Hence the install with all PS3 games?

Piss poor journalism here I'm afraid.

It's a joke about Laserdisc I assume being a past Sony backed technology which was to be the next big thing.

Remember that had this game in the "Vic" in Cork City.

Just trial and error gameplay.
You will be shot in certain places where you have no idea wher ethe shot is coming from.

It's just like it's laser disc brethern Space Ace and Dragon's Lair.

Devoid of any gameplay.

@Waffleaber agreed, its a joke that has gone over the heads of several in the comments above, also works as a dig at the poor loading times of blu ray games.

dear god, people take this site far to seriously. The blue ray was a joke about future tech, laserdisc was meant to be the future but didnt take off same how blue ray is meant to be the future.

At end of the day, just chill you lot and thank you Mr Purchese.

F**k that shit!

Mad Dog McCree was utter wank when it was released.

If it came packaged with a free £100 note it would still be shit!
