Nintendo GC Conference Finished

Nintendo's press conference at the Leipzig Games Convention kicks off at 10.15am CEST / 09.15am BST this morning, and Eurogamer's intrepid roaming reporters are already in place - securing the most comfortable chairs and the nicest-looking pastries - and getting ready to deliver the latest news from the conference direct to your eyes. As ever with our Live Text system, which we've taken out of the cupboard and dusted down since its last moment in the limelight back at E3, you don't actually need to refresh this page (and we'd prefer if you didn't) - it will auto-refresh on an ongoing basis to show you our latest updates. So grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy our stream of consciousness reporting on the Wii, the DS, and anything else Nintendo happen to want to chat about this morning...

    "..gone to graveyards, every one.

    /holds up lighter."

I think they've just upgraded the servers or software or something, because there was a maintenance mode screen when I tried to access the site an hour ago.

I wonder could David Hasselhoff really have saved Nintendo's press conference?

    /snickering.

    and...

@smelly: "STOP IT WITH ASKING ABOUT THE FECKING PRICE!!!

THEYVE SAID NUMEROUS TIMES THAT PRICE, ETC WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN SEPTEMBER.

    it's STILL AUGUST

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!"

yeah, and they said play Zelda TP on your gamecube christmas 2005, too.

what can possibly be the reason to withhold this crucial information for a another measly 14 days or so?????????????????

Sounds like the old Nintendo from the SNES days is starting to come back... for better or worse...
  • GingerNathan 10 years ago

"Sony get hammered when they wax egotistically like this, & yet Nintendo do not. Wacky, eh?
    "

No, Sony got hammered for announcing a high price for their console, a complete lack of descent game footage (Heavenly Sword aside), last minute (or at least appeared to be) bolted on motion sensitivity, and the announcement of releasing two different PS3 packages after slating Microsoft for doing the same.

Their self fellating was the least of the problems.
  • GingerNathan 10 years ago

"Sony announces Pink PSP for Europe, oh look Nintendo announces Pink DS Lite for Europe. "

What are you talking about, what relevance does that have. If you're implying Nintendo's copying Sony then I think you'll find that the Pink DS Lite was released in Japan months ago, and it was always going to come over here before Christmas as the (released near Christmas last year in Europe) Pink DS Phat has sold by the bucket load.
  • KillahSouljah 10 years ago

Sony announces Pink PSP for Europe, oh look Nintendo announces Pink DS Lite for Europe.
  • mazzl 10 years ago

@smelly.. those thamn marketing boys (and girls) they only give us nipples and we give them attention... we suck ;)
  • smelly 10 years ago

why did nentento actually held a press conference.. they had nothing to tell..
    anyway.. boring.

    It's called hype/marketting

    They're hyping both their products.

If they didnt have a conference, then they'd be lost and forgotten about under msoft and sony's shows.

They had nothing major to announce as they've stated NUMEROUS times that they WONT announce anything until september.
  • nickthegun 10 years ago

This is the first thread ive read in quite a while that doesnt contain 99% of posters burying their heads in the mighty groin of Nintendo.

Is the initial hype wearing off, only to be replaced with a feeling of 'Uh.....is this just going to be an eye toy with a magic wand?'.

    The Emporers New Console?
  • Nikanoru 10 years ago

Well....frankly, I don't see a comment like "the first 5 million or so will buy it, even if there aren't any games" coming from Nintendo. That's just being honest here.
  • mazzl 10 years ago

why did nentento actually held a press conference.. they had nothing to tell..

unless they release a orange ds ;)
  • chupachups 10 years ago

"Hopefully it'll cue the easily led fucktards into hoisting themselves with their own principled petards once more, & refuse to buy a Wii until Nintendo's unbelievable arrogance subsides. "

If people did that, they wouldn't buy any consoles at all. :)
  • UncleLou 10 years ago

  • JediMasterMalik 10 years ago

I thought Ninty were meant to have learnt their lesson?
  • SimonM7 10 years ago

Why is everyone so surprised? Did anyone even pay attention during last year's GC? What the heck were you expecting anyway?

With E3 gone in its current form, perhaps it's time to start expecting bigger news from smaller events like this next year, but really, it's just recently even appeared on people's radars.
  • smelly 10 years ago

    until Nintendo's unbelievable arrogance subsides.

I think you're confusing nintendo with sony
  • Steroyd 10 years ago

  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife 10 years ago

It wasn't bad, per se, just didn't have anything new except for some expected game annoucements. Sony's E3 press conference was actively awful though so still retains the crown as Worst Games Press Conference Ever.
  • floW 10 years ago

hopefully they work harder on the games than this conference
  • JediMasterMalik 10 years ago

Other than starting on time, I think this is worse then Sony's E3. Even if E3 was bigger then GC.
  • snick 10 years ago

I'm on safari and not getting updates. =( Apple + R not too tricky tho.
  • gaselite 10 years ago

    best press conference ever c/d?

Haha, why the hell were people expecting price/release date today? September, people.

I really hope this version of Mario Football is a little more polished - no slowdown, some stadiums that actually make a difference (looks like they've taken note on this front, positively) and the ability to rename the Toads on your team would be nice.
  • Pike 10 years ago

That will also be playable on the stand. Now they're talking about third-party support... Listing all the publishers working on the Wii.

EA, SEGA, THQ, Activision, Namco, Konami, Square Enix, Capcom and Ubisoft logos flash up.

Is that supposed to be impressive in some way? If one of those companies didn't work on games for the Wii it would be pretty troubling for Nintendo.

    "What's the German for "OBJECTION!"?"

    It's EINSPRUCH.

Actually, courtroom shows are quite successfull in Germany, although pretty crappy. Turn on the german TV program at 2:00 PM (german time) and you will find nothing else for three hours on any channel. :(

I see they're doing their level best to appeal to the non-traditional gaming audience then.

Gosh, I'm glad I'm just reading about the conference and not actually there. So far we've had 30 minutes of... well... nothing really, just the usual yawnsome haven't-we-done-well pat-on-the-back guff.

"Nintendo fanboys are growing older, not too surprising I'd say considering they are the ones who bought the original Mario and Zelda games."

So why do Nintendo haters keep dismissing it as just for kids then?
  • UncleLou 10 years ago

35 per cent of buyers are over 35 - and older user numbers are increasing all the time.

I've never been asked for my age when I bought a Ninty game, fortunately. :)
  • The12thMonkey 10 years ago

Lack of Hoff aside, it's interesting to see the Japanese Brain Training trend continuing.

    Loved that Hasselhoff joke.

@beano: Hasselhoff was quite popular in Germany in the 90s. Not only for his acting in Knight Rider but for his singing "talent". He sang "I've been looking for freedom" at the Berlin Wall before or after it came down, I don't remember exactly. Some songs even in German. And he made a lot of money over here.

  • Blerk 10 years ago

He's on about the NES, believe it or not - and the Game Boy. The "aren't we successful and great" part of the presentation is going a bit deeper than usual.

That probably means they're not actually going to announce anything. :-)
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife 10 years ago

Okay, we get it. Nintendo is newness FTW. Now annouce some stuff! ;)
  • Beano 10 years ago

    What's this Hasselhoff crap?

The guy is not even german... gee.. :)
  • Blerk 10 years ago

It doesn't seem to be working terribly well in Safari, I'm afraid (this stumped me for a second too) - I'd suggest using Firefox or Camino. We'll take a look at the Safari compatibility in the future, hopefully!
  • Blerk 10 years ago

Heh. This should be funny. :-)
  • Dexter 10 years ago
