Loyal Halo 2 fans invited to Reach beta News • News • Eurogamer.net

Microsoft is rewarding loyal Halo 2 fans with presents as both a thank you and a "sorry" for turning the game's multiplayer servers off.

The best gift is an invite to the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta, which begins 3rd May. Previously, only Halo 3: ODST owners had been asked to participate.

Halo 2 loyalists will also be given three free months of Xbox Live Gold membership and a lump sum of 400 Microsoft Points (Ł3.40/€4.65), according to a copy of an email sent by Microsoft posted on the Bungie forums.

The Halo 2 servers close on 15th April.

You'll receive an email from Microsoft about the rewards should you be eligible. We're not sure how one becomes "loyal".

Well, I can tell you that six years of Xbox Live, 3,300 games of Halo 2 played, and a similar number of Halo 3 games played does not qualify as "loyal".

I was thinking the same actually. Either way, I'm not one of them, since I've played like, Halo 2 three or four times online, since Halo 3 came out. Shall I be branded as a heretic, by Tartarus...?!?!?!

At this point I think it's not even clear if this is a worldwide action or not. As Yossarian said, many of us who consider themselves major Halo players have not received an email. As far as I know, it's not only for those who never played Halo 3 though, as people like Louis Wu from halo.bungie.org received one.

I have played all the Halo's on my 360 and thought i'd give Halo 2 a go before the servers go down in april as i've never been online with it before. Literally had about 3 games on it then turned it off but I've received the email yesterday :0.
As of yet though I haven't seen any of the gifts themselves though.

Only got this email a few days ago & have already had my subscription extended

Had only recently played Halo 2 online once I heard about the original Live servers going off, and even that was only for less than an hour !! Had only previously played online with Halo 2 briefly

Can't recall if I've played Halo 3 online...

Now that's how all game developers should be, these guys recognise that without loyal fans they are nothing. Bungie is definitely in my cool people book.
