LOTRO: Moria pre-orders open

Codemasters lifts lid on Euro offering.

Codemasters has opened the bidding on pre-orders for the first Lord of the Rings Online expansion, Mines of Moria, in Europe - and announced limited pre-order incentives available to early birds.

European pre-orderers will be offered The Cloak of Sunset, "a unique cloak emblazoned with an image of the Hollin Gate", an exclusive in-game title, "Moria Expeditionary", and one exclusive token allowing them to choose from a list of eight unqiue in-game items. Codemasters warns that this offer may vary between retailers, however.

Codemasters is also offering the option to buy Mines of Moria with a lifetime subscription at the cost of GBP 119.99 / EUR 149.99.

You can buy the standalone expansion pack for GBP 19.99 / EUR 29.99, the special edition for GBP 49.99 / EUR 69.99, or a compilation pack featuring both the original game and the expansion for GBP 29.99 / EUR 39.99. All are available from the official pre-order site.

The special edition features the expansion, the original game, 60 days of game time, a brooch, a soundtrack CD, a map, a choice of three in-game items and some buddy keys.

Mines of Moria adds the famous underground world to the game, as well as ten new levels, two new classes, and an system for levelling up and customising your weapons. Eurogamer MMO visited Turbine recently to see it and came away impressed: check out our exhaustive hands-on impressions.

I've just finsihed playing a month each of WoW and LOTRO. I fell out with WoW after it killed me (I wanted all the not-being-killed titles), but I started with a new character and I'm enjoying it again. But I've played WoW longer, and my friends are all on it.

Both getting expansions soon isn't making my choice of MMO any easier, plus I'm going to try FFXI next month, and Star Wars Galaxies after that. I have no idea why I buy all these MMOs. They dazzle me with promises of new lands to explore and original features.

Caremonkeys are currently flying out of my arse.

Most MMO's are trembling at the thought of "THE" expansion coming soon. The announced pre-expansion content patch for WoW probably has a few devs a little worried.....

Seems an odd option for an MMO that relies on subscription fees for its revenue, although I don't actually see that product mentioned on the pre-order page (unlss I'm missing it).

I don'thave time for MMOs anyway so doesn't really affect me, but I thought it curious...

last time I checked, you get the option for that lifetime subscription in the same account management screen you put in your gametime code, so I'm guessing it'll be an option somewhere there.

    I cannot wait =)

I'm an avid WoW player and LOTRO player but have to say I am more excited about this.

Regarding the strangeness of lifetime subs..

It might very well be a stroke of genius for the survival of the game. Ok, they might not get as much revenue in the end but it will keep lots of players active in the game, buying expansions etc. More active players also means that arriving newbies wont be greeted with "empty" servers. I know I can't draw conclusions from just a few friends but I regularly play with around 10 people in lotro and all are lifetimers... Most are going over to WAR but will buy the Moria expansion as well and play both. We would probably have cancelled our accounts before Moria if we were on a normal sub.

Anyways.. I am really looking forward to this!

Anyone know what happens if you have already paid for a lifetime subscription for the original LOTRO game? Do I just buy the expansion and can carry on playing fee-free or will I start being charged a monthly fee?

    @chanandler

You will just have to buy the retail box and continue playing. Your lifetime sub covers Moria.. :)
