Lost Planet 2, SSFIV get release dates

Plus: Monster Hunter Tri due in April.

Capcom has announced a whole bundle of release dates for its forthcoming titles.

First up is Lost Planet 2, which will launch in Europe and North America on 18th May. The game is in development for PS3 and Xbox 360 and will feature six interconnected episodes, "creating a truly unique interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved", according to Capcom. You'll be able to team up with a maximum of three other players and fight the good fight over Xbox Live and PSN.

Speaking of which, Super Street Fighter IV will be coming to Europe on 30th April, also on PS3 and 360. The US will get it three days earlier. Expect new online modes, combos and characters, including Tae Kwon Do specialist Juri.

There's another treat in store for beat-em-up fans with Final Fight: Double Impact, a dual release of two classic arcade side-scrollers for PSN and XBLA. In the Final Fight, Cody Guy and Haggar must trek across Metro City to face off with the evil Mad Gear. Magic Sword has more of a fantasy bent and sees you taking on dark lord Drokmar with eight allies. An exact date has yet to be locked down, but at least Capcom is talking "spring" for the pair of them.

Meanwhile Monster Hunter Tri, already a big hit with Wii owners in Japan, will arrive in Europe this April. Four-player online co-op is promised along with two player co-op arena quests, and there's a story mode which should help new players get to grips with it all. You can choose from a range of control schemes, too.

    Great news. I was afraid with all the Capcom pushing releases back to 2011 nonsense that came out late last year that SSFIV would not see light of day in 2010... this is just what I wanted to read this morning.

    I'm really hoping Monster Hunter Tri will be the big game it sounds, kind of like a WoW for the Wii.

    Can't wait for a review!!

    @Joco84

    I'm not sure if you've played a monster hunter game before so forgive me if I assume you haven't for the time being.

    Monster hunter games are very time consuming and often slow paced. You go off on a series of monster hunting missions in various regions of the game world. Each mission starts you off at a home base town, from which you need to trek out into the wilderness (further and further each mission). To facilitate this your character has a stamina level and a health level. As the journeys get longer, you need to learn new skills to survive away from the village. This can be stuff like cooking the meat of certain creatures to restore health and stamina. Potion making for a quick health or stat boost, trap making to kill smaller prey etc. etc.

    Your character doesn't level up as in traditional action role players but, instead all and I mean ALL of your stat boosts are accomplished by creating new armour and weapons out of the remains of the creatures you hunt and kill. The game is very time consuming and has prolonged bouts of simply wandering from one hunting location to the next, often making a short camp (later in the game) to cook and heal up for the coming battles. The maps are split into zones that open up as you progress through the game. Each zone has a super wyvern (dragon to you, me and anyone chinese) as it's main monster. These are not really given as quest beats but, will be encountered as you enter their lairs (which will always be in the way of getting to the next zone). The wyverns are clever and brutal and you will ofetn stumble into them while exploring. Usually you get a warning that you are near because they fly over, roar and let you know your in for some hurt if you continue on.

    To sum up. Monster hunter isn't for everyone. It's not a fast paced game and you really need to invest in creating armour, weapons, traps etc. etc. in order to survive. There are no quick routes through the game and no uber weapons that you will find just lying around. Anything special that you do find will need to be taken back (long hike out means long hike back to town) and then given to the weapons smith to forge into a unique weapon or set of armour. If you stick at it you'll be rewarded but, even though I love the monster hunter franchise, I have to warn you that I've only ever managed to finish one of them. They really do take that long to get through.

    Any idea if Lost Planet 2 will be coming to PC this time? Ignored it first around but the sequel does look semi-interesting...

    Loving these release dates. I should be done with most of the early game releases by then. I hope Crackdown 2 isnt out until August. That would fit in perfectly.

    Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago is playable in the 360 version of Lost Planet 2. How awesome/crazy is that? Its only in multiplayer of course.
