I thought the trailer was pretty average until I saw the last bit with the MP boss battle. That got me hugely excited all of a sudden cause it looked awesome. Also everything else (the boat scene, the battles) all made much more sense with 4 player co-op afterwards.

the official statement is the game is being developed for 360 with no mention of other platforms. timed exclusive? most likely.

The PC version Lost Planet Extreme Condition - Colonies supported cross platform multiplayer (PC vs 360).
Can we expect the same?

In all fairness to the gamepad vs mouse/keyboard debate, the PC version should only allow multiplayer wit 360 owners if a controller (perhaps just the 360 controller) is connected to the PC. :D

Co-op is a poor substitute for split-screen gaming. While it might be a nice addition for people with plenty of spare time or real gaming addicts, I don't think the masses (the people that don't have a Live Gold account) will ever care about it much. Certainly not in the next console cycle or two.

It was the one thing good about the setting.
All they needed was the co-op with a bit more horror element with even more snow and less electricity, and you had yourself one heck of a game.

Utter nonsense. How is co-op only applicable to addicts or people with lots of spare time? Co-op is applicable to anyone with friends who own the same system+game. Good co-op implementations (such as Gears) allow drop-in drop-out play so you can join a friends game in progress within about 30 of switching on your 360.

Honestly Les, you really talk some shit. Your views are so bizarre, not to mention wrong, that I have no idea how you can function in the real world.

You honestly think that gold subs are the minorty? You are very very wrong. For consclusive proof of your wrongness, load up a sample of 360 games in an evening and check the lobbies, or look at an average 360 owners friends list. You will find the majority of people playing online.

Co-op is now a standard feature in the majority of 360 games, and to a lesser extent PS3 games, and will continue to be so throughout this gen and the next.

Online features like co-op are understandably absent from Wii games as the online service is little more than two bean cans connected by string. This is probably where you get your weird opinion on co-op from.

I liked the melting ice bit from the trailer, looked authentic. Dont forget that the Earth once was covered with ice too.
I like the idea of LP with different enviroments.

Split screen gaming sucks, you can't see half of what you're doing most of the time, framerates always suffer. Also split screen is mostly competitive. Co-op is playing the game together. And online gaming ensures there's always someone around who wants to give it a shot.

You seem to forget the two main issues with split-screen gaming:

1. You lose screen space the more players you have on the same console - and I'm willing to bet that more members of your beloved 'masses' have smaller, standard-definition screens and therefore would hate split-screen gaming because it would be very difficult to see what the hell is going on.

2. People have to be in the same room at the same time to play. Obvious, I know, but I'd say it's more difficult to get two friends into the same room than it is for those two friends to meet up online.

And anyways, according to Microsoft one third of all 360 owners are Gold subscribers - certainly not a majority, but not exactly an insignificant number.

And, finally:

A-buh? How are the two mutually exclusive? Co-op is one TYPE of multiplayer gaming and most games let you do it in split-screen or via Internet or Network. The ones that don't let you do split-screen co-op tend not to let you play ANY form of multiplayer in that way.

I can't count the number of hours I've spent playing Halo or Gears co-op splitscreen with friends, and now there's horde mode popping up in many games which will extened co-op splitscreen gaming even further.

Meh, I'd rather play something that doesn't obstruct my view, like SF4 or LBP. Still great when you have friends over, less dodgy.

There are games where that works and games where that does not work. I like both splitscreen and fullscreen co-op games. Dismissing one type of co-op play is simply rediculous.

You are right, the devs said it's not possible. Thus I'll never own it because the only reason I own a burnout game is for splitscreen road rage. Takedown still rules.

Local co-op?

The greatest co-op games offer both local and online co-op. If you're really lucky you can go online with your splitscreen buddy.

It's one of the biggest complaints against KZ2. The masses already care about it, and will likely care more and more over the next console cycle or two.

LP was my 1st 360 game and I enjoyed it hugely (apart from the dodgy cutscenes)

4 player co-op , the new engine and shed load of improvements from the 1st game could perhaps put this in GOTY territory :)

It's not. Go read the forum. The only one who was obsessed with the lack of co-op in KZ2 and made a big fuss about how incredibly, unforgivably disappointing this is, was you. There is plenty of other things in KZ people (myself included) are disappointed with, but it certainly ain't co-op (or the lack of it).

I was quite excited when I first heard of the party pack, but that has pass-the-controller play, not splitscreen. It's specifically Road Rage mode in splitscreen that I'm missing from Paradise.

It's a shame, as Paradise has lovely visuals and a nice weight to the car handling model, but I can quite happily carry on with Takedown for the time being.

All of my posts were about co-op, which I think is a feature that's irrelevant to most and worse, takes resources away from areas that could utilize them better. I haven't said a single bad thing about this (multiplatform) game itself. My dislike of a certain monopolist that abuses its powers whenever it can has nothing to do with this at all. As I've said many times before, the 360 is probably the best product MS ever created.

Why not just admit that your initial reaction was way off target and that you let earlier discussions about completely separate issues cloud your judgement?

Nope, because none of that is true.

You could argue that putting multiplayer into any game takes valuable investment euros away from the single player experience, so therefore no money should be spent on that at all. But then there's a limit to how much money you can keep pouring into the same thing and still receive a big benefit - and examples such as MotorStorm prove that the lack of a split-screen option but the inclusion of online play don't affect sales overly much.

My reason for bringing up your posting history is because I think you're an idiot and that it needs to be brought to the table every time you make a comment - it's *all* about the context.

You could but I don't. You're right in saying that there's a point at which investing additional resources in a certain part of a game starts to produce diminishing returns. Theoretically very sound. But TBH I've never encountered a game that couldn't have used an additional layer of polish to good effect. Look at Resistance 2. SP could have been much better and more polished had less resources been wasted on co-op. And the reason why I think putting resources into co-op is a wate is because many more people play SP versus co-op.

I don't think you're an idiot in general but you're acting like one in this thread. This is a multiplatform thread and out of nowhere you start attacking me and drag a discussion about whether or not the xbox projects are appreciated by MS investors into this discussion in order to second guess my motives.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. I seem to recall that in previous discussions you were able to be civil and use reason instead of emotion in a discussion. Maybe you've had a bad day or something. But if you continue in this fashion I think it's best we ignore each other in the future.

In the gaming community I'm in, all the people who own R2 have regular co-op nights. It's a big feature in resistance 2 and is used a lot, far more than SP and far more than competitive MP. I don't hear many compliments about R2's solo campaign but I do hear compliments about playing it co-op.

That probably isnt representative of the general R2 user base as community gamers are tighter nit and tend to co-op more, but that's a community playing R2 solely for co-op.

Co-op is a big deal, especially in shooters, and isnt going away.
