Lost Planet 2 demo for XBL "soon" News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Oli Welsh

29 June, 2009

Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi has confirmed to Famitsu - as spotted by Joystiq - that a demo of Lost Planet 2 will be released on Xbox Live "soon, I guess".

Takeuchi said the demo would be the four-player co-op level shown at E3 this year. We had a go on that when swinging by Capcom's stand, and thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with three others to take down (or rather, fail to take down) an absolutely gigantic insectoid boss using rocket launchers and bipedal mechs.

The level combined Lost Planet's familiar third-person shooting with something of the Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star Online, we thought: the thrill of collaboratively, systematically taking on a big monster was straight out of those great multiplayer RPGs.

Takeuchi also mentioned that it will be possible to replace players with bots, as well as set up custom weapon sets and other character customisations through unlocks. It's unclear whether these features will make it into the demo, though.

The game is due for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 next year. More info at the Lost Planet 2 gamepage.

Lost Planet 2 could be the best game this generation so far imo. The first had the best online multiplayer i have ever experienced.

I wasn't a fan of the first online, but it was certainly different to anything else I've played, and well worth trying out at least. But this co-op, taking on t souhe same kind of massive creatures as the first, sounds amazing. I can't wait to try out this demo.

co-op demo is no use to me unless it's bot-able. Same stupid idea as that Bionic Commando demo... useless

Well I'm a Silver LIVE user now so a co-op demo is of absolutely no use to me so I hope there's a single player demo too. I'm certainly interested in this game (for the PC) but not for the multiplayer.

This looks like a genuinely interesting game. I hope the full thing addresses or acknowledges the reasons for and morality of slaughtering the indigenous life on the planet.

Now you know, so dont buy it.

Personally i will play the game with 3 friends and never with AI controlled teammates so im all for it. Coop always make games more fun imo. I will never understand how some people dont like to play games with others wether its competitive mp or coop.

Split-screen coop, I hope? Otherwise it's a useless feature, I don't want to play on the same team as those raving, american 12-year olds on live.

I got all excited when I saw the headline, and then my hopes were dashed when I read "multiplayer demo" in the copy.

What is it Capcom with your exclusive multiplayer demos? I was hoping BC was a one-off.

I have completed Halo 3 on my own and with a couple of friends. The playthrough with my friends was one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had. Playing through it alone was pretty meh in comparison. This game will be alot better with friends on my side.

I like both, they're diferent experiences. Somedays I just want to do things my way, not really in the mood to socialize. Can't say I prefer playing alone or with friends. Different kicks for different moods.

Anyway, different ppl, also. I'm not always ready to online play, or to "socialize" that doesn't mean I like it less, I'm just not ready for it "anytime, all the time", I need my space.

I rather liked LP1, and a bit of co-op is always welcome if it is well done.

A certain amount of the objection on this page seems to be based on citing examples of bad co-op. The co-op in ResE5 was badly done. That doesn't make co-op bad, it just means ResE5 did a crap job of it.

Halo did a great job of it, and the co-op experience of Halo far outweighed the sp mode imo. LP seems like the sort of game that would benefit, so as long as they don't bugger it up I'm suire it will be a great addition.

I'm very excited. Lost Planet was one of the most enjoyable games in recent times, and having a co-op campaign just seems like the perfect improvement.
