Lost Odyssey date set in stone

Silly hair at end of February.

Lost Odyssey will be out in Europe on 29th February, although Microsoft hasn't jumped up and down about it in its usual public manner.

The date has been known about for a while now, but because we give presents to friends and help old people across roads we thought that you might like to know. Concrete. Set in stone. That sort of thing.

Lost Odyssey is the next enormous role-playing project from Japanese developer Mistwalker, lead by Final Fantasy mastermind Hironobu Sakaguchi.

This, along with Blue Dragon (also developed by Mistwalker), is part of The Big Microsoft Idea to break into the Japanese market. It doesn't seem to have helped a great deal.

Lost Odyssey also scored well in Japanese magazine Famitsu upon release last November, totalling 34/40 in the 360 publication and 36/40 in the full edition - just one point shy of Blue Dragon.

But then we gave Blue Dragon 6/10 because it was lengthy, monotonous, childish and repetitive. Stuck in the past, if you like. Still, it spurred me to play it for 55 hours and only get 120 Gamerpoints for it. I am the real winner.

It also prompted Sakaguchi (or MS prompted Sakaguchi) do alter some bits and pieces this time around, like focusing on better voice acting for the west and appealing to a more mature audience.

Or buy it right now from Play-Asia. For cheaper.

Hopefully it will be better than Blue Dragon. Turn Based RPG's really are a dying breed, but it would be nice to see them have one last hurrah on this gen. Xenosaga 3 was pretty much the pinnacle of turn-based slickness at the end of last gen for me and it's gonna take something a lot slicker than Blue Dragon to better it.
Silly hairdo for the main guy (Sakaguchi's new charcter artist can't quite capture Nomura's weird but cool hairstylings) but the game looks like it could be quite epic. :)

Blue Dragon got 5/10, not 6.

It wont top Mass Effect in my book, thats for sure! But I hope it will be something special, after all, it's from the man that brought us FFVII...

@toythatkills.. hadnt seen that the version released today was PAL compatible.. good spot
  • Raziel #8 4 years ago

    @toythatkills, delbert

So the version from Play-Asia plays on PAL 360's for sure?
I haven't imported anything, ever, so I'm doubting if I should do this... but it does seem much faster and much cheaper.

Yep, looks as if it is. 'English language version' and says PAL compatible (but not compatible for America :p) So seems pretty conclusive.

Hmm, kinda scares me, since I've never done this, but this is just too good of a deal to pass up.

Though, in the time I was figuring out how to set up a PayPal account, it was sold out >.>

"it's from the man that brought us FFVII..."
No, he didn't have a lot to do with FFVII. Think of it more as from the guy who brought you FF: Spirits Within and FF9. :)

I never got in FF series, enjoy the strategy turn-based chess type RPGs. I never bothered with Blue Dragon and probably won't with LO. The last great Rpg I played and really enjoyed was Vandal Hearts on PS1; simply because it was not over confusing, the right approach with enemy strengths and weakness, everything was visible to who your players were and the weren't (Disagea was confusing with this due to over use of color and no indication who is your memeber!)...The problem with RPG's such as Oblivion is that there's no clue to what weakness the enemies have, this leading a trial and error approach and a lot guess work, also the enemies able to able to increase there HP as you go higher - spoilt the game, because what was the point of increasing your strength, defense as itjust had limited effect in combat . This sort of ruin the game as there were plenty of battles and no way of knowing the best strgy to use.

Hate random battles too!...am enjoying Mass Effect at present. Might go for Eternal Sonata (got alot of good reviews)...Look forwrd too
    Fable 2, and Too Human.

So FFXII wasn't lenghty, monotonous and repetitive? Don't play JRPG's if you don't like em I say. Blue Dragon started of to slow but really was enjoyable once it got started. LO looks ace as well.

Eurogamer's reviews are well written but are frequently inconsistent/random - that’s all part of the fun.
I rarely agree with that Kristan fella, but I enjoy his reviews all the same.

I too found that play-asia and renchi.com(a good play-asia alternative, if a little more expensive on the shipping) were both out of stock. As of this morning though, Renchi.com have re-stocked and have already shipped my copy! So, if play-asia are still sold out, I'd recommend Renchi.com.

    Good luck! ^_^

edit: Link now directs to the Lost Odyssey page... no longer showing as out of stock. Play-Asia has also restocked now too as well.
