Just a warning, if someone asks me to Pandemics developement studio to play this if I kill one of my fellow EGers, I'll do it. Okay, maybe not, but I'd seriously consider it, negotiate so I play it first, then run away laughing.

I want this an unhealthy amount. Even playing SW:Battlefront 2 and imagining obi-wans lightsaber is a normal sword, and the enemy are all Urak-hai in fancy outfits.

The default view of Battlefront was 3rd person. You could switch to FP mode anytime. IMO, better as 3rd.
This game should rock. A LotR-themed Battlefront-style game. Yes please. Looks to be based on the movies too, thank God. They claim there will be huge arenas and hundreds of characters on-screen plus the ability to play as heroes like Gandalf and villains like Sauron and the Witch-King. There's even a capture the Frodo mode where one team of players as Ring Wraiths must hunt down a lone Frodo who can turn invisible. Can't wait.

This might have been a great idea if the SW Battlefront games hadn't been such unmitigated ass, and the battles were about four times as populous.

First person or not, it's an FPS. The fact that you can choose a third person view is being pedantic. Jedi Knight was a FPS.
