Lode Runner arriving on XBLA tomorrow News

Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

21 April, 2009

An all-new version of 1983 classic Lode Runner will appear on Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.

""Lode" up on the fun," advises the press release, promising 3D visuals, 2D action, 220 levels and six play modes.

It's all about running, climbing and blasting blocks, outsmarting enemies and grabbing the gold. Up to four players can play tag via Xbox Live and you can create and share your own levels online.

"For long-time fans or first-time Runners, it’s the mother-lode!" says the press release.

A online tournament is taking place this Saturday between 12pm and 3pm PDT - that's 8pm and 11pm GMT. You'll be able to play with developers from Tozai and SouthEnd Interactive, who produced the game.

I have fond memories of the C64 version of Lode Runner, but I have plenty of other games to play at the moment and this needed to be cheap to justify an impulse purchase. Sadly, 1200MSP is not cheap enough.

The 1200 points isn't Microsofts fault (unless they are the publisher/developer). Still that's quite a lot for a game that's older than my last girlfriend.

Think i`ll pass on 1200 points for this, especially when there are so many various decent free pc versions just a goggle check away.

Spend 200 points on the 'Miner Dig Deep' community game instead - it's brilliant!

800 points for Outrun I thought was fair but when games exceed the 1000 point I think it becomes too pricey for games that you don't actually own.

I know digital distribution is a growing market but I don't think they have got the pricing right yet considering when Live is no more, you will no longer have a copy of the the game.

Hopefully the controls won't be as borked as the iPod version! That was COMPLETELY impossible to play.

i think MS made a mistake with their points. 1200 just sounds alot. but in reality 1200 is only £11, which is fuck all really.

It is done by the same guys as R-Type. It is a total re-write with tons of extras (and a level editor). 11 quid is a good price for so much work.

£11 might not be all that much, but it is when you think that you don't actually own the game in the traditional sense.

@jim1975:

That's pretty much the same conclusion I come to every time I see a comments thread complaining about things costing 1200 points. If it's a game I want I'll pay that much without much concern. Otherwise if it's a game I don't want I wouldn't be spending anything on it anyway.

It seems most current XBLA releases are pushing for the 1200 point price tag now. Cheeky price hike. It'd be great if some of these games didn't exist in the first place and only needed a quick conversion and achievement tags adding. No use complaining though, I'll be buying Banjo-Tooie.

This is an old ruleset for a game but it is a new development. The work that has to be put in is the same as with a new game.

Don't you feel shame whining publicly that a game you don't even want costs a couple of euros more than others. It still costs me less than two glasses of wine when I go out here (gas not included). Acting as if this is a personal insult to your intelligence is just pathetic.

Apparently they've put it up to 1200 now. They couldn't organise a bear shitting in the pope contest in a brewery.

Glad I nabbed it at 800, though I too would have paid 1200.
