LocoRoco 2, Age of Booty on PSN

Full games included in big update.

LocoRoco 2 and Age of Booty headline this week's PlayStation Store update, which also includes an eight-quid Far Cry 2 add-on and the usual spray of downloadable content for Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band, both of which get stuff from The Killers.

There are also demo versions of Age of Booty, Dead Space and GTI Club+, which is out on PSN next week in full. Retro-heads may be enticed by Syndicate Wars for PSone, which can of course be had for either PS3 or PSP, and there are also downloadable PSP games KAZooK and Carol Vorderman's Sudoku.

The only disappointing thing about all of this is that the downloadable LocoRoco 2 is up for a whopping GBP 23.99 - over a fiver more than most online shops want for the boxed version.

Last night I couldn't even be bothered to see what was up on PSN, indeed it seems there was no need to.

PSN is slipping of late (into a sea of pointless DLC), mind you Live 'ain't much better these days, thank heaven for SSF2THD on Wednesday.

    @bad09
I thought the dead space and gti+ demos made for quite a good PSN week.

Am I the only one who can't see the leaderboards of Super Stardust Portable?

BTW, I second that. Give us a review, EG!

Funny that most of us PSP owners already downloaded it.

Downloading all the demos whilst playing Everyday Shooter bricked my PS3 last night (well, that's what was happening when it died). This makes me very sad as my 30th approaches and I was expecting a slew of games. Anyone know how long Sony take to get a refurbed one out?

Not the best update but at least they're getting content out there. I don't understand the pricing though, a boxed copy of LocoRoco 2 is less than twenty quid. I knolw they need to not piss of retail but it misses the point of digital distribution somewhat.

Why are the prices going up on psone games - i thought they were all £3.49, now they are moving up, with sim city at £6.99 last week and syndicate wars at £3.99 thiis week. Its not enough, but I'm trying to remember if syndicate wars was any good... anyone else remember? I'm sure i used to have it a long time ago, wasn't it a remake of the first, but with polygons?

Sony is determined to sell as few copies of LocoRoco 2 as possible, isn't it?

Shame, as it's one of the games of the year.

More disappointing than the price to me is that I discovered Loco Roco 2 is 1.6GB after I bought it - if I remember correctly the original was only about 64MB when all was said and done, and it was a bit of a shock to me to see this size. It's still manageable, but it's not the kind of tiny size that would guarantee Loco Roco 2 to be on my MS forever. I had bought a 4GB card a while ago but switched it with my camera as on the PSP 2GB was more than enough, but it looks like I might be changing it back now, or else get me an 8MB card (not that expensive anymore anyway, even more so if you go the SD with MS adapter route).

The game does seem more substantial now with more animations and especially an lot more sound, music, effects and such. And of course load-times on MS are pretty much zero, which is nice too. Still, 1.6GB!

Super Stardust PSP, weighing in at a measly 74MB, which I bought directly from PSN on the PSP itself when I was at work, is pretty good by the way. The single player game has more of an endless mode feel (similar enemy types, more stuff happening much faster) and there is really a tonne of stuff being put on the screen just like on the PS3 version. It's pretty good stuff. I have two questions standing for it though - 1 is that in the highscore table, all the PS3's modes are listed (e.g. endless mode, bomb mode, survival mode) as well as the new PSP's Impact mode (which seems to be a fair bit of fun, sort of a cross between bomb and endless). Are these unlocked or will they be expansion packs like on the PS3? I'm guessing the latter. 2. The online scoreboard doesn't work for me yet. Anyone else have a different experience or are they just not up yet?

Still, the PSP is getting some major love and buying these games from PSN is a big improvement overall, and seems to be the way forward for PSP. However, they should probably try not to put too many 1.6GB games, or that will diminish the effect a little. I'm keeping the install on my PS3 for now, so I can take Loco Roco off and put it back on without too much hassle, but if you don't have plenty of space on your MS, then the UMD version may well become more convenient!

Still, excellent update though this week. And from looking at the DLC, I'm starting to become more and more a Rockband fan.

    @ Confounder

Maybe you misunderstand mate. I wasn't really talking demos, more PAID content mainly PS1/PS3 games. Which has been crap for weeks, but like I said for me Live hasn't been much better of late.

(of course all this is my own humble opinion!)
  • jonsaan #13 3 years ago

Re LR2: But the advantage of the download version is I can stick it on all of our family psps for the price of one. from that point of view it's pretty good value compared to buying a UMD.
  • Zebula77 #14 3 years ago

I was real disappointed to see LocoRoco 2 was only available on the UK and Australian stores and not the Norwegian one. WTF? All the other content was the same. Now, I already own LR2 and it's bloody fantastic. I just don't see why it's not available in Norway. Weird.
Dead Space demo was good. Looking forward to the game.

LocoRoco2 was on the Dutch store as well (that's where I bought it). I reckon something is special with Norway. Probably this weird deal that Sony has with this Scandinavian publisher. (what was it, Nordisk film?)
