LittleBigPlanet live interview on Weds

User-created questions.

Eurogamer readers will be able to quiz David Smith, co-founder and technical director of LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule, this Wednesday, 2nd July.

Smith will be online to face questions from you in one of our live interviews from 4pm BST (UK time) / 5pm CET.

LittleBigPlanet is one of the PS3's hottest prospects for 2008 and we were captivated by it and the possibilities of its user-created content focus when we took a look earlier this year.

"User-generated content is at the heart of LittleBigPlanet and if we've done our jobs right, you'll create new experiences that we haven't even thought of yet," said Smith, when we asked him to give us words for our press release.

"This is a great opportunity for me to make sure you have the tools to make the LittleBigPlanet experiences you want to make." It's also a chance to ask him the questions you've had on your mind for the last year but have never had the chance to ask. He meant that.

Live interviews couldn't be simpler: you just sign up for a Eurogamer account, visit the site at the allotted time and type in your questions. Then we put the best ones to Smith and feed back the answer while you watch. You don't even have to refresh the site.

If you want some clues as to how they usually work, or just want to see what sort of things are asked, be sure to check out the archive of our Ted Price live interview from the start of June.

See you all on Wednesday, 2nd July at 4pm UK!

Q2: No, seriously, when's it out?
  • JediMasterMalik #4 4 years ago

They've already given a release date, October I believe. Just hope they stick to it.

Why can't we post our questions before the interview? I have lots, but am unavailable at the time, and I don't trust the monkeys in here to ask anything other than the usual "When's it out, what's it about, do you have a boyfriend?" .... ;-)

Alright, here are some questions, I would have asked, so feel free to ask them if you seek the answers too:

Physics: We know the game is physics based, but are the physics 2 or 3 dimensional? I mean, I've watched the trailers and seen people create a tank and put wheels on the side facing the player. But is it nesessary to place wheels on the "backside" too in order to make the tank move?

Sound-effects: Whenever Littlebigplanet has been demoed, theres always happy tunes playing, but will there be sound effects in the game, and will we be able to add a sound effect to a creation?

Beta: You must know by now if there will be a beta trial or not. So will it happen (perhaps using Sony's European beta trialists) and when?

Private levels: We know you can make a level private and hand out keys to friends you'd like to play it. Can they also edit the level? I'm part of a large community and would like to see the community make a common level filled with all the crazyness we posess :-)

    ;)

How about, do you feel any pressure now that you are last great hope for the PS3, as all the others have failed to match the hype?

If you post them here (as I see you have - nice one!) we'll try and get to them.

It's a good point though and I'll talk to our techs about implementing something that allows this in future. Obviously we want to make it an "event", but we always open up for questions half an hour early anyway so it makes sense to do it further in advance.

Whoa! LittleBigPlanet will be the best game to date. I'm really sure about it. It counts more than 98/100 in Metacritic, I'm also sure about that. And I'm also sure that me and my friends will spend a hell lot of time with LittleBigPlanet. The most waited game for this year, absolutely.

4 pm seems a funny time to hold it if you want more than school-kids to be present. I may be off work by then, but if not, I would like to ask :

    1) If there's any possibility of importing 3D meshes, or do all items have to be created in game. They have pointed to the hat and chilli-bowl as examples that be given away as prizes, but these are more sophisticated than what can be created in game. If meshes are supported, in what format?

    2) Will there be independent camera controls and video capture? I think creating virtual 'theatre plays' would be great, but it would want some camera controls and an ability to export video.

Unfortunately that makes it 4am for me :/
So in the interest of some answers:

I know there's a lot of people out there wanting to start work on their LBP ideas. When can we expect you be releasing details on the more technical aspects of content creation soon? eg. image specifications for custom textures?

@Shifty Heh, fancy meeting you here ;D
