Not my type of game at all... mainly because I sound like a wounded seal when I sing... but some will certainly love it, and its just nice to see a much broader mix of games on the 360.

Liking the ability to get bonus point for going off-piste with the singing.

Not that I will, as I'm about as tuneful as a drunk tramp howling for pennies. But wireless mics - how has Sony let Microsoft steal the lead on that front?

Really looking forward to this, plus I am convinced MS will be on the ball with downloadable songs. Good times indeed...

Wow. That Singstar wishlist was a big one. Wireless mics - yep a definite improvement, but really, any TRUE rock god has wires for mic twirling and wobbling the wire all over the place like an iPod advert.
LEDs and motion sensing was on your wish list? Really?
And being able to add scores by warbling like some has been Noggie with a mullet? How does that work? Sounds suspiciously like some "casual" gaming mechanic to ensure even the most incompetant howler gets a zillion point bonus and screen explosions every ten seconds even if they're nowhere near on pitch. Which I suppose is fun, but sort of misses the point of the game.

problem is Sony music own a rather large amount of the music industry, so expect alot of novelty songs on Lips, when they run out of mainstream bands.

I hope this isn't one of those "overly positive" previews and then when the game is reviewed it actually turns out to be shit. The reason being? Well, I was very much on the fence (but looking for an xmas party game) but have just now placed my pre-order at zavvi.

It's a risk.

You seem to think that that sony music would not licence any rights because they have a games department. There is only one thing that matters to a company and it most certainly isn't fanboy notions like that.

Sounds great. If they get the act together on the music front then I'm sold. Love SingStar but the choice of music is wanting.

@Xerx3s

Your right they are different departments i mean Microsoft license windows to Sony laptops, but i reckon Sony Entertainment will be looking to keep alot of songs exclusive to sing star at least for a time limited period.

Im baseing this on the absolute massive lack of Sony published films appearing on the 360 Film Store, and you can bet your life when the Sony Film Store opens on PS3 it will be packed with Sony Films. 007 from day one.

They own a chunk of it, but there's plenty out there that they don't own. Anyway, I doubt Sony Music will have much problem with charging Microsoft for use of their catalogue.

Hopefully this will give the Singstar team the kick up the bum they need. So revolutionary at launch, so safe and money-grabbing since then.

Since the track list is region specific, I'm hoping they make the US tracks available over here.

I'd much rather be singing REM's "The One I Love" and Weezer's "Island in the Sun" than Geri Halliwell's "Raining Men" and Booty Luv's "Boogie 2Nite" anyway. :S

Okay - first, there's something pretty funny about complaining about a casual gaming mechanic in a karaoke game :)

Secondly, vibrato and other such techniques are the difference between flat, a-tonal, technically accurate but utterly boring singing - and genuinely good, interesting singing. Right now, Singstar punishes you for that. Two of my friends, who play with us on occasion, are professionally trained singers - to everyone in the room, they sound amazing, but Singstar consistently scores them lower than us mere mortals. Lips should, hopefully, redress the balance, and encourage everyone to sing better. That's a Very Good Thing.

I love singstar and can tell you that two of those improvements are certainly wanted in my house.

My PS2 has been pulled off the table 3 times at parties when people have been pissed and are scrambling for a go with the wired mics.

Also, the note sustain criticism of SS is bang on. It's really starting to get annoying that we can't drop the end of a note like the original artist does without been marked down for it. It was fine when SS first came out but now it's just makes all the competent players sounds like monotonous fuckwits.

Still not sure if I'll get this until the markerplace opens as I don't have a 360 in the living room and I'm not sure I want to move it there.

Also, I have complete faith in iNis that they will make a music rhythym game to not only beat SingStar, but come close to Ouendan. The fact that they've allowed the singer to 'vibrato' is fantastic, and it's something that I tought they'd add in to the next edition of Oeundan: bonus points for additional half-beats (some songs are so catchy, you're really tempted to go mental with tapping).

My only reservation is the DLC. If they can a lot out the door, and why should they not - if Microsoft have been throwing good money after bad on the Xbox project, then this is one area that absoutely demands it - then it will be a sure-fire contender for 'best karaoke' game.

Columbia (Sony) owns Spiderman, James Bond etc. That doesn't stop Activision making games based on those IPs on other consoles. Sony Music and Sony Pictures are separate entities from Sony Computer Entertainment.
