Lionhead reveal teased for gamescom

Che Guevara, a choice, the number six.

Peter Molyneux is set to make an announcement at gamescom next week and Lionhead's website has been given a curious Che Guevara makeover to tease it.

Following news from Microsoft of a "special announcement" from Molyneux at the show next Wednesday, the website frontpage was swapped out for that picture of the Marxist revolutionary and the following quote:

"At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love."

The way through to the main site is to click on thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons, which take you to Followers.aspx or Subjects.aspx with red or blue colour schemes respectively.

Those with keen eyes can also make out the massive number "6" in the background next to Guevara's stylised image, although it's difficult to make out without adjusting your monitor colours.

There doesn't appear to be any further elaboration on the Lionhead site itself, but the binary choice and thumbs are evocative, to say the least, of Fable - and Lionhead has had a tough job convincing people it's not working on a sequel to its excellent action RPG of late last year.

well, not that it gives any more clues, but the banner that unfolds at the sides of the followers / subjects pages seem to be a royal banner with a crown a fleur-de-li and a castle in the manner of a heraldic design. The Subjects banner is named "royal" and is the simble banner, but the Followers banner - named "rebel" - seems to be the same banner (the crown is still visible on the heraldic icons), but dyed over in red and black with a red phoenix painted / printed over the originac symbols.

So I'm guessing a classic Molyneux duality of choice and consequences, but more about how a nation ends up in a potential feudal vs. peasant revolt style as opposed to the lead character being good or bad.

Edit - full banner obviously seen by taking a sneaky look behind the scenes of the flash files. There's also a few frames of a bug and a small animation of some smoke that doesn't seem to be used in the files.

Not to read into things too much, but the 6 isshowing up a lot around the job listings on their site. They are hiring animators and network programers for 6 months up to a year working on the 360 platform.

"let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love"

I don't think it's Fable III, I think FHUTA has a better grasp on it. I think there'd be more Albion iconography going on if it was a Fable game.

The number is just a count down. Different historical figure and quote today, along with the number 5. Although they've managed to misspell the quote (I presume the typo isn't in the original).

How many versions of Populous have there been? Six?
  • r4z0rbl4d3 #8 3 years ago

    @shadowaspect - Wow, your'e right!

Maximilien Robispierre: 'Terror is only justice; Prompt, Severe and Inflexible; It is then an Emanation of Virtue; It is less a distinct principle than a natural consequence of the general principle of democracy, applied to the most pressing wants of the country.'

Wow, we're heading to war I guess, and guerilla warfare by the sounds of it.

Damn you shadowaspect *shakes fist* I was going to give that heads-up. Oh well.

What's this? A countdown site with some actual thought put into it..?
  • crazyhorse174 #11 3 years ago

EG, do us a favour and get rid of these - and + buttons on posts. Theres about half a dozen decent postings here that have all been given -1 by someone for, as far as I can see, absolutely no good reason.
  • miiiguel #12 3 years ago

Robespierre... uau, tottaly unexpected. And the dude was opposed to militarism (though he dug "terror", :} - him and his buddy Guillotin... no shit! ), so no "war" in this teaser.

The latest Fable II DLC had an outfit in it supposedly from a vision of the future, modelled on a British uniform from the Napoleonic era, with a description that the guy who made it saw "great battles"... Napoleonic wars=Monarchist empire vs Republican empire (albeit an Imperialist one!)... Just a thought, although I'd agree it seems far, far, far too early to be talking about Fable 3.
  • r4z0rbl4d3 #14 3 years ago

@crazyhorse174 - Agreed. Or make both more visible since I tend to press the '-' one since it's easier to see.

Also, if you 'thumbs up' on Robispierre you go to /followers, same as for Guevara. That might mean something, or it might mean Lionhead just copied the code straight onto the new image. :D
  • BabyJesus #16 3 years ago

I wonder how many fable fans have looked up Robispierre's wikipedia in the last 24 hours.

New strategy game from Lionhead is my bet. They haven't done one years and Peter loves them. You heard it here first!
  • deli2000 #18 3 years ago

Lionhead have probably got some feudal war game in the works
it will NOT be fable 3
    It will NOT be milo.
but (hopefully) It will be something completely out of the blue!
  • man.the.king #19 3 years ago

Maybe the "big reveal" is the guy behind the curtain in EG? ;)

    Just kidding!

Hopefully it's a new title and not just something to do with Natal.
  • Empedocles #20 3 years ago

Abe Lincoln today, anyone thing old Abe looks a little like Mr Molyneux?
  • Sharzam #21 3 years ago

Lionhead are known for trying out new ideas and games (black and white, anyone) so to be honest if its not fable 3 it could really be anything.
  • Moribundman #22 3 years ago

It's a game based around the concept of revolution/counter revolution and/or something that Molyneux considers to be "revolutionary" to gaming. Just like 99% of his other projects... ;-)
  • pinochet_cz #23 3 years ago

Guevara? Who's next? Hitler? Don't forget Pinochet then :)
