Lionhead prioritising Fable II Abbot bug News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

27 October, 2008

Lionhead has said that fixing the Abbot bug in Fable II is a "matter of priority", and that a patch to fix the multiplayer glitch stripping characters of gold and experience will be made available "very soon".

"We are aware that a minority of people playing Fable II over the last few days have encountered an issue where the Abbot becomes unresponsive at the beginning of Monks Quest in Oakfield," one of the developers wrote on the official Lionhead forum.

"This is an isolated issue, but we are currently looking into it as a matter of priority," the poster continued.

"If you have already encountered this issue, there is unfortunately no work-around at this time, but we will keep you updated on any progress made.

There's no date for the patch at present, but the issue only seems to occur if you run away from the Abbot when he starts talking to you for the first time. If his cut-scene finishes, you should have no problem.

"Some things slip through the net during development, especially when a game is the size and scope of Fable II," adds the post.

"Again, we can only apologise for this issue, but we are doing our best. We might be silent on these boards, but we are watching and listening to you, the community, and are looking into all serious issues that are bought to our attention."

One thing that came up on the forum following the game's launch was the discovery that there is only one save slot available per character in Fable II, although you can have up to five characters per profile.

Fable II was released last Friday, and hits the shelves running after some serious critical acclaim, including a 10/10 from Eurogamer. Head over to our Fable II review to find out why.

Yep excellent game.

I am disappointed with the co-op though. Especially when a mate joins my game and my fatness randomly goes up by about 100 (he denies somehow force-feeding me pies). I was so good-looking too.

I'm the oposite. I got bored of Fable 2 pretty quickly. It felt like I was constantly running around doing the same quests over and over again. The Jobs were idiotic "Hit the button at the correct time" things (I've yet to find one that isn't) and the so called amazing combat boils down to freeze time, summon ghosts and finally fire or lightning as a follow up. And don't get me started about the idiotic social interaction shite.

Been hearing of a few bugs but I guarantee there will be a patch to fix them all in pretty short order.

Having played it over the weekend I can safely say this is without doubt GOTY for me. It's got bags of charm, rediculous amounts of things to do, engaging combat, interesting quests and it's one of the best looking games released to date, aside from a small amount of tearing but as it's not a viewpoint-centric game (like FPS or racer) it doesnt detract much.

The dog is fantastic too, I spent almost as much time watching and playing with the dog as I did doing other stuff. Also love playing about with expressions and their effect on people. I even got a sculptor to make a statue of my character crapping his pants which is now on display in oakfield!

Simply brilliant! :)

The game is ace and enthralling and less about skill and more about an unfolding narrative. I've been completely taken in by it over the weekend and love the fact that your cash from rented properties ticks away while the game is off. However, it's frustrating that a bug is blocking forward progress. I've not come across anything like this before in a game, and you'd have thought that the game being finished months ago would have given more time for bug testing. Presumably they were concentrating on a first day patch for online co-op.

This is a great game, and I'm gonna take ages to complete it because I've turned off the glowing quest route thingy.

Makes it much more enjoyable I think.

Enjoying this far more than I expected I would. Lovely realised world, nice bits of humour and plenty to do so far.

If it keeps it up then EG will be vindicated in their award of 10/10

And it's better than being led through the game by the nose, I've discovered loads of stuff I never would have.

I actually like having the glowing trail switched on, because it tells me where I SHOULD be going, and thus I go anywhere but in that direction until I can find no other routes or sidequests! :)

Got a question though, I got married and had a nipper and decided the best place to be was anywhere but at home. However after a few days questing I've been told the missus demands servicing so I went home and upstairs for a jolly good seeing to, but embarrasingly can't work out how to operate one's tackle. How do I 'do the deed'?

This is referring to in-game events, not real life, by the way.. ;)

I still don't understand the limitations on save games. I mean the Xbox had, what, an 8GB hard drive? And you could have as many saves as you damn well pleased (memory permitting, obv). But now you have a 20GB, 60GB or 120GB HDD and you can only have 5 saves per profile? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Phew!! After 9 hours of faffing around I only just completed the Abbot quest last night, thank fuck I didn't wander off whilst he was yacking, huh?
Ohh and absolutely love the game, no other title this year has had me this engrossed, and unless GOW2 is the be all and end all of third person shooters, which to be honest it doesn't look like it'll be(N, Fable 2 will probably be my GOTY.

Well I *still* haven't started it :(

Sad to hear that there are so many bugs in it - given the nature of many of them (trigger handling), makes me wonder whether this is the first multi-threaded s/w that Lionhead have done ...

Good game, especially thanks to the sexy sound of Susan from My Family at key moments. Not that I'd watch that shit, naturally.
