Line Rider for Wii, DS

Etch-A-Sketch sledge-mania.

Californian developer inXile has announced the development of popular Internet game Line Rider for the Wii and DS, with a scheduled release date of spring 2007.

Created by Bostjan Cadez, the game lets you pencil out ramps, hills and jumps, before letting a cleverly physics-programmed sledder career head-first down your course.

"I have been around the interactive entertainment industry long enough to have seen similar phenomenon like Tetris and Bejeweled become massive international hits, and Line Rider has all the elements to do the same," said inXile CEO Brian Fargo. "Line Rider is like a fully animated Etch-A-Sketch and will be perfect for the Nintendo DS and Wii."

The original has proved to be an immense hit with deranged YouTube users, who have created more than 11,000 videos which in turn have produced over 15 million views.

"Line Rider is becoming one of the most popular flash games on the web," reckoned Time.com, while The Wall Street Journal called the game, "Online gamers' new addiction."

Head over to the Line Rider website and put a virtual snow-reveller's life in peril while you're waiting for the Nintendo versions.

It's popular because it's free and one can do a quick doodle in it without it costing anything. Selling this for $30 (assuming they don't retail at full price) is a crime.

Besides, you can probably play the flash version on your Wii through Opera anyway.

This isn't the first free flash game which has been hawked at full price on the DS, they seem to think they can get away with charging for something that's free.

I might get it on the DS if it throws in some fun extras and so on, simply because I've been waiting for a full on doodling game to come out.

Can't see it working on the wii though.

    I want Magic Pengel DS!

Couldn't it simply be a downloadable title for the Wii?

As far as I rememberd Nintendo said that virtual console will also host arcade live style games. I am not too sure though. But this title would be perfect. And I can also imagine some nice connectivity between the DS and the Wii version.

I think this will go the same way as Cave Story. Publisher contacts lone developer, then nothing ever happens.

Yep, when I was sat at Logan Airport last year for 5 hours playing Zoo Keeper I was thinking to myself...

"why DID I pay $25 for this? I could be playing it on my PC for free"

    This is a crazy idea.

    No thanks (unless it's a $5 download)

Hmmm.. actually.. having played the flash "game".. i'd say as a full on game this has potential.

Thinking kirby (my favourite ds game) but with physics.

really? a publisher showed interest in Cave Story? if that's true then it's an absolute travesty that nothing's come of it.
