Limited edition Medal of Honor coming

Get early access to special stuff, for free.

Electronic Arts has announced a limited edition version of Medal of Honor, the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game due out this October.

Pre-order the game via the MOH website and you'll get an exclusive weapon, the MP7. You'll also be able to access the TOZ-194 and 870MC2 shotguns from day one, without having to unlock them. And all this for the same price as the regular edition.

"Access to a weapon like the MP7 will allow players to experience a tool developed with the Special Operations Community in mind," said exec producer Greg Goodrich.

"With its light weight, high rate of fire and its ability to penetrate body armor, the MP7 handles like a pistol yet allows targets to be engaged like a rifle."

Medal of Honor is out on 15th October. For all the business, including previews, videos and screenshots, visit the gamepage.

It saddens me whenever I hear a games bod enthusing about real life weapons like this. I like my violence to have *just* enough detachment from reality please.

"will allow players to experience a tool developed with the Special Operations Community in mind"

A big part of the appeal of shooters is they allow gamers to pretend to shoot things just like they did as kids in the playground. When devs start saying it's like the real thing, it gets creepy.
Firing an MP5 for real is a lot scarier than pretending to do it in a game believe me.

next they promise us the limited edition gives FREE access to new maps (anyone remembers the Bad Company 2 Limited Edition with the same promise? how many NEW maps we got since release? Zero! Fail!)

"The first 10,000 pre-order customers will also get all the weapons and gadgets unlocked, will gain all the achievements and trophies, and will be able to set the game to auto-pilot leaving them free to read a book or do something else."

How was the beta? I enjoyed Cod 4, MW2 not as much and gave up on both with BFBC2 came out. Is this going to be worth the outlay?

(I know forming opinions from a Beta and not a demo is incorrect, just looking for a little info :)

For some, maybe. But the target audience for modern war FPS love this stuff.

Just like Bad Company 2, a bunch of stuff you'll unlock pretty quickly anyway. Project Ten Dorrah was bad, the "VIP" maps were worse, now stuff that's already in the game is being offered as a bonus.

So pre-ordering gets me something that I'll unlock anyway through regular play? Thanks!

Pay extra to gain "free" acces....does not compute....

So if I understand things correctly; unless you pre-order/buy early you will not get access to this weapon they created for the game? It's kind of a silly thing to not buy a game over, particularly if you were already going to buy it, it's not like you lose anything, but practices like these are just not very good at all. Pre-order the game or you don't get access to all of it, basically.

EA's always terrible with stuff like this. At one point they did mention that they'd roll out something similar to the BC2 VIP membership for Medal of Honor. Which in my experience means you'll only get access to 60% of the game's maps on launch, with the rest slowly being trickled out under the guise of being free maps.

Oh well, I'm not buying this game anyway. The beta shows the multiplayer to be a an utterly bland mix of BC2 and MW2 that's worse than both of them. The singleplayer could redeem it though I guess.

The beta didn't look great, on the Giant Bomb showing I watched. Seeing it as it was really cooled down my enthusiasm for the full thing. "Bland", yeah, that's a very apt description, thanks, donkey. Not what I wanted to see at all. The impression I had was of expecting maybe, a heavier, more individually focused version of BFBC2, not an EA take on MW. :x

How the fuck is this a limited edition? I am tired of companies throwing out limited/special/collectors editions that offer nothing but unlocked in-game content. Most of the time these versions cost more and unjustifiably so! Uncharted 2's Fortune Hunter edition only had 200 made, that's limited. Bayonetta with artbook, OST and replica gun, that's a special/collectors edition. This is a pre-order bonus at best.

    @LR100
Well it is limited in some capacity. After a week or so you'll start seeing boxarts without the "Limited Edition" printed on them. With BC2 I think they actually made too few of them. Pre-ordered and picked my copy up two days after release and I didn't get the LE. Not that it mattered in the slightest, additional text on the boxart was the only difference really. With this game you'd miss out on a weapon though.

I preordered the game to get me access to the beta, which I still havent got. My preorder is now cancelled. And DICE/EA have gone from my gaming heroes (because of all the fun I had on BC2) to the nickel and diming arseholes many claimed them to be. The thing that leaves the worse taste in my mouth is all the "free" maps we didnt get. Why the fuck didnt they unlock all the maps on the disc from day one and increase the games' lifespan?
