Life with PlayStation temporarily available

They've shut it down again now.

Sony has confirmed that new PS3 service Life with PlayStation was briefly up, running and available to the public earlier today.

As reported on the US PlayStation.com forums, some PS3 owners managed to get it going.

According to Sony, this wasn't meant to happen. "Today, while testing the application, Life with PlayStation was available for download temporarily, by mistake," a spokesperson told Eurogamer. The error has since been rectified, and you can't get hold of the app any more. We've tried.

For those who aren't familiar, Life will offer news and weather updates via a swish looking global map. It was supposed to launch in July, then August, then in a bit. For now, Sony's only saying, "We will make official announcement for the service launch shortly."

Thing is, I'd rather have the TV going than Life in the morning...
If you had BBC Breakfast feeding through in the corner, now that'd be alright.

First GTA and now this, Ellie's collection of " it was there but now it isn't" stories increases.

Just keep them to a trickle Ellie and no one with get suspicious :)

With PlayTV out this weekend what is the need for this app? I'm really starting to question how focussed the ship is at Sony. Having seen MS's new dashboard I can't see Sony competing in the online services front. The price is now right, too. Sony really are doing too much and I don't know if Home and things like this will be enough to remedy the problem. I get the sense that they are losing the plot a little, strategically speaking. Oh, well. At least the system won't "brink" on me. ;o)

    "Isn't this a Wii app?"

    What, news and weather reports?
  • degville #6 3 years ago

you can argue the need of the app if you like but remember you have to pay for the playtv unit and this is free..... not really comparable

"What, news and weather reports? "

The way it's done is a direct clone of Wii's Weather and News channels.

Hopefully the PS3 "version" will actually be useable.

Plus, I hope your location is totally customisable for wherever you choose in the world. The Wii one is useless for me, as I have a US imported console... and therefore am limited to American weather and news defaults. I 'can' search for weather in Cambridge UK, but not make it a default.

Anyone who managed to get this be warned. It is being bug tested so use at your own peril!

Official Sony spokesman, "The weather doesn't start until we say it does."

    @Floppy
I doubt it, I have a US PS3 and I can't change my region to UK, it only has North America regions. Plus I always get the US news from that shitty news ticker thing, even though I connect to the UK Playstation store.
