Life with PlayStation delayed again News

PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

1 September, 2008

Sony has told PS3 owners they'll have to wait a bit longer for Life with PlayStation to arrive - but confirmed the new news service will be free.

In a post on the US PlayStation blog Sony's Noam Rimon wrote, "We’re still pushing some paperwork on Life with PlayStation - so hold tight just a bit longer."

Rimon went on to confirm, "We’re going to offer this as a free service that will be easily accessible directly from the XMB."

Life with PlayStation was first announced earlier this year, with Sony originally saying it would be out in July. That was later changed to August, which has of course come and gone.

But what is it, exactly? "Life with PlayStation will feed live content to your PS3 with updates on news and weather on a visually stunning and interactive global map," explained Rimon.

"Imagine being able to wake up to your PS3 to see if you need to pack an umbrella for the day. Or just relax as you listen to your favourite tunes while reading up on top news from around the world." Absolutely, nothing takes the edge off the latest conflict in the Middle East like a bit of Scooch playing in the background.

Rimon also wrote that Life with PlayStation will tie-in with the Folding@home project, so whenever you use the service you'll be helping to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Here's hoping there's not too long to wait.

Personally I'm pretty keen for this to come out. Call me weird, but it sounds decent for a free thing. The Wii versions are really nice, so I'm sure this will be too. Shame about yet another delay though.

First I've heard of this. Can't say it's something I'm interested in, my battery powered radio and LBC 1152 tell me everything I need for the day at a much reduced carbon footprint.

I think people are complaining that Sony are bothering to build this at all.

Doesn't the PS3 have a web browser in it already? In which case, a bookmark for the BBC, Yahoo, MSN, Google, their own ISP or any other portal site would sort all that out for them automatically.

Yes but it doesn't have a cool floating 3D globe. I bet it will be featured in the new Bond movie ;)

It's all about presentation really. Have you compared Wii's news channel to those web pages.

The real issue isn't the fact that Sony are delaying something pointless that the Wii (the king of pointless add-ons) has had for years, it is how Ellie continually gets away with making references to Scooch!

In your usual cack-handed style of reply, you completely ignored the key word in that sentence.. POINTLESS.

Pointless like all the other 'lifestyle applications' the PS3 is plagued with. All those POINTLESS developments could have funded something worthwhile, like a decent PSN game, or maybe the funds could have been used to hire a second devleoper and shaved a couple years off the KZ2 dev time.

Sony: 'Oh look over there, I see new PS3 software'

Lolstation owners: 'I'm desperate! Gimme!'

Sony: *scarpers*

Game devs: 'Dont look at us, we got zip for another 2 years cos they nicked our budget'

When you fanboy pricks stop trolling 360 threads then maybe, just maybe I'll stop pointing out the very obvious flaws in the shit you PS3 lovers are being fed.

"The word OPTIONAL can't be stressed enough."

Missed the point yet again numbnuts. The development, marketing, distribution costs ARE NOT OPTIONAL. This garbage costs Sony money. If that money was poured into useful ventures then perhaps the PS3 wouldnt be such a goddamn joke of a platform.

So becasue other people are being "fanboy pricks" it gives you justification to be one?

stop trolling 360 threads
I've never posted in a 360 thread.

You say you hate fanboys and then you say:
PS3 wouldnt be such a goddamn joke of a platform.
Pot, kettle etc.
