BioShock man working on new shooter

Levine seeks serious talent to help out.

BioShock creator Ken Levine's "next big project" is "an unannounced shooter", according to a fresh batch of 2K Boston studio vacancies.

The adverts for the positions - a principal combat designer, multiplayer level designer and level designer - all refer to the project as such.

2K Boston has high standards. "We don't believe in throwing in something that can't go head to head with the big boys," mentions the multiplayer level designer blurb, before asking for "industry-changing" input. And the level designer position requires ideas that will "blow gamers' minds".

Ken "The Vine" Levine has long teased the studio's next project. He's said the game will be a "huge surprise" to fans and "more ambitious" than even BioShock was.

Rumour points towards an X-COM game, although follow-ups to SWAT 4 or Freedom Force aren't out of the question. Levine could also be conjuring an entirely original IP.

BioShock 2, meanwhile, is being developed by 2K Marin. The sequel was recently delayed to early 2010. "We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve," explained 2K boss Ben Feder.

It definitely won't be, but I'd love to see a remake of System Shock 2, because I've heard its supposed to be the nuts but I've never played it :-(

Nothing to do with Modern Warfare 2 being out in November of course....

I hope it's an original IP. We need more of those. Lots and lots more.

And I really hope it's not System Shock 3. He's already proven he wasn't able to match BioShock up to it's spiritual predecessor, let alone better it.

In my perfect (yet highly unlikely) world, EA would give him the System Shock license, and then Warren Spector would team up with him an they'd create the end to the Greatest Videogame Trillogy Ever.

The multi-player-centric nature of these job vacancies suggests nothing of the sort though.

Ho hum. A guy can dream.

I've tinkered with the idea of working in the US in the past, unitl I realised how little holiday and benefits they get. 10 days holiday a year. 10 DAYS! TWO WORKING WEEKS. ALL YEAR!!!!

    Bioshock 3: Fame And Glory!

You play as the very first Big Sister! New enemies! Big Mother and Big Father!

System shock 3, as much as love the idea of that having devoted many nights to SS2. I dont want it because it has the potential to ruin a truely great franchise or encourage milking of it. As most of the people that worked on it have moved onto other pastures.

But at the end of the day doesnt matter the IP as long as its a great game.
