LEGO Indy takes top spot from GTA IV News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

9 June, 2008

LEGO Indiana Jones has swung in ahead of Grand Theft Auto IV to take top spot in the UK all-formats chart.

Demand for the building-block game was whipped up by the recent release of the Indiana Jones film, resulting in it outselling the Rockstar game by more than three to one.

Grand Theft Auto IV only just managed to stay ahead of Race Driver: GRID at three, which was tailed by chart familiars Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and Wii Play at four and five, respectively.

Ninja Gaiden II spends its first week at six, holding off a surge from Mario Kart Wii up from 10 to seven.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, Call of Duty 4 and FIFA 08 rounded the list off at eight, nine, and 10, respectively.

Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit only just missed the top flight to take 11 after its first weekend on sale, while Wii mini-game title Sports Island was close behind with its debut at 14.

Link's Crossbow Training managed to jump back in the top 40 at 24, and the PC version of Mass Effect saw it re-enter the chart at 26.

Other interesting points were Guitar Hero III staying seven places better off than Rock Band, and Age of Conan tumbling further from 16 to 27, although still maintaining its grip at the top of the PC chart.

Apparently in the Wii one you can pretend to swish your whip around.

Swishy whip > pixels.

glad to seee NG2 sells well. Stellar game as far as I'm concerned, even if the frame rate issues are really disappointing (I hope they'll release a patch someday).

It's called Saints Row 2. ;)

And I bought the 360 version of Lego Indy, simply because of the achievements. They're pretty amusing.

smelly: try getting into the multiplayer. I had my first singleplayer session last night after about two weeks of solid online, and it's horribly dull in comparison. I just wanted to get to a fun bit of driving/shooting, but first I had to drive to see someone, watch a cutscene, drive to the internet cafe, click around there, wait for a text, then drive to a shop and buy the right clothes, then wait ten hours for the appointment. Finally I got there to find that "buy a suit" meant "buy a suit that comes with a tie, not one that doesn't", so I couldn't play the missions and the whole thing was a waste of an hour, yay.

I've actually found the best way to enjoy GTAIV as a single-player sandbox is to enter party mode on your own. Free access to vehicles and weapons, no incessent mobile-phone interruptions exhorting you to go and play a bad darts minigame, no police all over you the instant you dare to get in a car ...

(edit: just looked at an FAQ to see why the various suit/shoe combinations I tried wouldn't let me trigger the mission. Turns out it's because I had glasses on.)
