Try out Left 4 Dead for free tomorrow News

PC News by Robert Purchese

30 April, 2009

Valve will offer a free, day-long Left 4 Dead trial tomorrow.

Steam users will be able to play the game from midnight tonight until midnight tomorrow, and the game can be pre-loaded now so you're ready when the clock strikes go.

The recently released Survival Pack will be included in the trial, which adds the Survival game mode and two extra multiplayer map.

In Left 4 Dead, a team of four survivors use teamwork to overcome a never-ending wave of Infected (zombies, basically) enemies. The twist comes from being able to control the Infected baddies during multiplayer. It's brilliant.

Creep over to our Left 4 Dead review to find out why.

why can't they just release a proper fucking demo, rather than this time-limited bullshit?

They put out a proper demo on Xbox live, didn't they?

This is bound to help the massive server lag issues.

I wanted to see if my PC was up to it, I'll give this a look. If it isn't, I'll stick with the 360 version, which is no great hardship.

No doubting the awesomeness of the game though. None at all. If you don't like it you're wrong :P

I think after a certain time period, they removed the 360 demo. But this is a great chance to get some friends on the game, many are worried that thier pc's cant run it hence why no sale, big risk if it doesnt run :)

Speaking of which, my laptop can run the entire orange box and left 4 dead, but cant run guitar hero III! thats just gash!

@Mentalist

I know I'd rather be able to play ALL the modes for a day than just a tiny segment over and over ad nauseum. The 360 demo was pretty cool, but there's only so many times you can run through the same level.

And I should add, versus mode is the reason you should buy this game. I've sunk 5/6 months worth of lunchbreaks into it with zero regrets. It's still as fun as it was on day one.

My PC is pretty Ghetto, 1.8 GHZ AMD, 1GB RAM and a 6600GT and Left 4 Dead runs absolutely fine for me, I was very surprised when I tried the demo to see how smooth it ran, granted I do run it at 800X600 but it does the job.

The PC and 360 demos were both time-limited. The 360 demo was for a week, the PC demo was for two weeks. Both before release of the game.

I don't see how a game can be overhyped when people (and by people, I mean actual gamers who own the thing) are still raving about it and posting unique experiences with it on forums for some five months after release.
