"Leaked" GTA IV intro movie is fake

The real one puts it to shame.

As some of you may have spotted, a wily YouTuber is circulating what claims to be the Grand Theft Auto IV introduction movie, but Eurogamer can confirm that it's a fake.

Rockstar has not officially commented on the "leak", but then it doesn't have to; we've watched the GTA IV intro and it's nothing like that.

We won't spoil anything for you, but the real movie, set in-game, is a very clever composition, introducing you to Niko Belic and Liberty City without being brash about it, and the way the opening credits are integrated is sure to raise a smile.

For more on what GTA IV is actually like, watch out for our hands-on impressions in the very near future.

does the real intro have choppy frame-rate too?
  • LetsGo #2 4 years ago

Thats how you know the fake is fake, it runs at 60 FPS!

That's a pretty damn boring video.

Also of interest: the Xbox sorta has hardwired DRM built in - the box is is noisy it's higly unsuitable for camcording copies off :)

    Just two more weeks now...

My guess is this is a clever bit of viral marketing...
  • david78 #5 4 years ago

I could tell it was fake - the box just didn't look right, just looked fake, and the PAL logo on the disc looked dodgy. No fancy spine either, which all the other games on Xbox had. Plus, the 18 logo is too small - games that have BBFC certificates nowadays have much bigger ratings pictures on them.

The fact he didn't allow comments confirms it.

Why bother going to all that trouble. Just seems pointless to me 0_o

lol I doubt Rockstar would really need to do that at this stage.

@ Slipstream - You're right they don't need to do anything at this stage. But free marketing...why not?

    Good point well made.

I hope your hands-on impression are going to be spoiler free?

What about that other one, the one where the camera is closing in on a monochrome Liberty City beofre finishing on the docks?

Has that been confirmed as fake yet?

If I was going to post GTA IV videos on the internet, I'd be posting actual gameplay footage or the complete intro sequence not some boring credits which are so obviously fake because no-one would post something that dreary if they really had the game. LOL

That video was fake? No Sherlock...
  • systems #15 4 years ago

I agree with david78. The Hologram is missing from the box for starters (replaced with a dull bluish copy).
  • Perjoss #16 4 years ago

I'm quite surprised that the game is so close to release and there has been no in game footage from the players perspective (including HUD etc) released to the public, nothing to show us what the new combat / cover system is like, kinda strange. Or maybe there is and I have not seen it, I have to admit I don't actively search for gta4 stuff on the net, that would be like torture seeing as its still 2 weeks away. TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY.
  • david78 #17 4 years ago

Rockstar never release actual gameplay footage showing the HUD and stuff like that before it actually comes out.
    It's part of the excitement.
  • KreyAtiv #18 4 years ago

I agree with Darren, if I did have the copy of the game I'd post actual gameplay footage and not bother with the opening credits.
I mean people tend to skip them anyway, I certainly do to get straight to the game to see what it's like.

Reading the review in OXM really whetted my appetite; they loved the game and gave it a 10 (not really a surprise there then) but I still think Eurogamer will dish out top marks too!

for some reason i'm thinking that the intro video has some sort of sopranos feel...dunno why. But then again, that's a bit cliche :)

This is not obviously fake, and everyone going " LOL I COULD TELL" is an idiot. Eurogamers claims are also pretty stupid. This isn't the STORY intro, this is the same intro movie that has come up before the loading screen on EVERY other 3d GTA that there is. It's simply the credits really. It's not fake, it's just not the "intro" Eurogamer have seen, it's a different type of intro. Don't believe me? Start up GTA III or VC or SA, and don't skip anything at any point.

@ZaammK - Whatever, it still doesn't explain why someone who really has the game would post up something so mind-numbingly dull as proof when they could have shown far more interesting and convincing gameplay stuff. So the real idiot in this instance is the person who posted the video in the first place. ;)
  • ZaammK #23 4 years ago

I agree, it's not very exciting. I'm not even saying it's NOT fake. It could well be. But Eurogamers reasons for claiming it's fake aren't really valid. We'll see when it comes out.
