LBP going all Pirates of the Caribbean News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

11 December, 2009

Media Molecule appears to be readying a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed update for LittleBigPlanet offering new levels and other gizmos.

A leaked list of PS3 Trophies (thanks PS3Trophies.org) says there will be four new stages - Port Royal, Pirate Town, The Frigate and Cursed Bay - plus a battle against mighty octopus the Kraken. We squid you not.

Activities include racing boats and diving for treasure, as one does on the high seas.

Is LittleBigPlanet your Game of the Year 2009? Wrong! Go and pick a game that was released this year as our reader voting is now open [a neat, practical segue, bon - Ed].

LBP GOTY was for the US. No idea if it's getting launched in the EU.

I wondered why they bothered licencing the movie. It would be very easy to produce a virtually identical generic pirate add-on without paying over for the rights.

I don't think they have licenced anything. It's just the way the EG story is written.

*Water* - yeeeesss! Looking forward to this!!

Really looking forward to the water in LBP - holding my new level back to be able to use water in a few puzzles... LittleBigTombRaider? :)

EDIT: I'm pretty sure they have the proper Pirates' license... it's a Sony picture after all?

Beano: I thought Pirates was a Disney/Bruckheimer franchise. Nothing to do with Sony as far as I'm aware. Anyway didn't they preview a whole bunch of LBP/Disney crossovers at a conference a while back including PotC?

With trophies like this I would think so.

Yes, can't wait for the water. Means some more awesome levels to play online. And with the new MM levels, it makes it even better. :)

Am I the only one annoyed they didn't release the water update way before this POTC pack? I can't have been the only one waiting for this so I could make my OWN giant octopus fight. Don't see the point now :(

Based on the trailer - water affects materials like gravity and will offer new gameplay possibilities. Hopefully the water level can be changed dynamicly within the level via switches etc.

Rumor says that the package will be out before christmas :D

Sony Interactive Entertainment would still have to license it from Sony Pictures, they're two different companies.

Would love to see them nick the water physics from Pixeljunk Shooter - that's been a whole lot of fun to play with. But knowing MM, they'll have an even better set up all of their own.

I get the feeling that LittleBigPoTC will be a whole lot better than the last two movies.
