Lara Underworld pushed back to Q4

For six platforms now.

Eidos parent SCi has decided to hold the new Tomb Raider game back until the fourth calendar quarter of 2008.

But when Underworld does come out it will be on six platforms instead of three, adding Wii, DS, and PS2 offerings to the existing PC, PS3 and 360 versions.

Three other undisclosed titles will follow it into Q4, prompting SCi to warn its investors they might see some red numbers for this financial year that ends in June.

Still, SCi has also revealed it is no longer selling itself to the highest bidder, because apparently no one made a formal offer within a "timeframe requested".

Perhaps this has alleviated pressure to present a healthy financial report to potential buyers and rush games to launch, but the publisher admits it might need a little more pocket money to help it through this now barren patch of releases.

Titles like Conflict: Denied Ops and casual outings Looney Toons and Wacky Races should help limit the damage, plus strong performances from Kane & Lynch - apparently selling over a million copies - and its casual games like Pony Friends has made board members crack a smile.

Tomb Raider: Underworld is one of our picks for 2008 in the action adventure genre. To find out the others, keep your eyes peeled on Eurogamer "going forward".

Hmm... I'm actually kind of disappointed that there's going to be a PS2 version. I was hoping for a proper next-gen-lead Lara, but the PS2 version suggests that it'll be just "more of the same, shinied up for 360/PS3". :-/

Well unless it's developed for the 360/PS3 and they port of a shittier version for the PS2. But I see your point...not that I care about lara anyway.

Aw, you should care about Lara. She's back on form, y'know.

They'll be offering a DS version, but not a PSP one? No wonder it's sad...

Good, I might have finished off (the excellent) Legends and Anniversary by then,

    SURELY!!!
They have to make it "for" the 360 > PS3

If they plan a PS2 version then surely a PSP version wouldn't take too much work to complete?

I agree with Blerk, it would have been great to have a PS3 / X360 specific title. Without wanting to jump too much on the sandbox bandwagon it would have been wonderful to have a large persistent world full of multiple dig sites that lead down into large, interconnecting tombs, large exterior platform sections and as few humans in there as possible.

"plus strong performances from Kane & Lynch - apparently selling over a million copies"

Really?! Proof, if it were ever needed, that no marketing is bad marketing.

To be honest I'm kinda glad there'll be a PS2 version; the way my money is right now I'm not sure I'll have a 360/PS3 by the end of the year (*sob*).

TR: anniversary on the PS2 was great, but I better not be still playing PS2 in late 2008.

I dont think that at all.

Take halo 3, bioshock, etc.. all of them would've worked on the "last gen" if you cut the graphics back.

I'm more worried that the wii version will be a port of the ps2 version.. as opposed to a port back from 360/ps3.. then to wii.. then to ps2.
