Lara Croft returns this summer for $15

In Guardian of Light for PC, PSN, XBLA.

Crystal Dynamics plans to release newly announced Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light this summer on PC, PSN and XBLA.

This downloadable action adventure costs $15, which translates to 1200 Microsoft Points.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light represents a new take on the Tomb Raider licence and, for once, there are no high-kicking Lara Croft clones in sight.

Instead, inspired by the excellent Shadow Complex, Crystal Dynamics has created a pretty world with around six hours of co-op gameplay for two friends.

There's a concerted effort to produce a high quality game, and perhaps establish a new direction for the flagging Tomb Raider licence.

The first screenshots can be found in our Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light gallery.

    Ffs.. Tomb Raider from the remake of 1 ( Unniversary ) and over I was again happy about the franchise and now they fucked it up? wtf is wron with them? Damn it they ruined it for me. Well at least i hope this thing is fun..

    Slightly surprised with the download only nature of the title, perhaps it'll be (another) fresh start for the franchise...will wait for more details but sounds promising.

    Guardian of Light, sounds like Angel of Darkness too much for me:p

    Bleh on the co-op only.

    @ Dfooster

    As it's DLC it'll require an internet connection to download it, so i'm pretty sure they'll include online co-op for people who tend to play games alone.

    I think there is also supposed to be a different, SP only campaign. At least thats what I read over at Kotaku.

    Anyway, SP or Co Op. Cant wait for this.

    Tomb Raider is dead...it had its glorious times back on the psx.

    It's like seeing the once fit girl in your class now fat and working in Greggs.

    Why, Lara, why?

    @Lunatic

    The last one was kinda good, at least the first half was:p

    As long as they include a demo (as with all XBLA games) which I can try and see for myself, I don't really mind. Also, aren't Crystal Dynamics supposed to be working on two Lara games, this one and one full blown Tomb Raider game?
  • Monkey_Puncher #11 2 years ago

    What on earth is this supposed to be?

    Give me a Tomb Raider game with animation on the level of something like Assassins Creed and I'd be happy.

    @Crez

    Oh, don't be dramatic

    FFXIII, GOW, Heavy Rain, ME2, etc, etc.

    And they sell too.
  • menage #13 2 years ago

    Maybe, didn't really affect BS2 or UC2 much. Resi 5 sucked because of it though, they need to keep it separate I agree
  • udat #14 2 years ago

    Does it have local and on-line cop-op?

    Would suck balls if it was online only.
  • M_of_the_sys #15 2 years ago

    The screens make it look like a kind of top down view a la Champions of Norrath. Can't say as I'd be interested in that.

    @MiniAdmin @dfooster
    It's not co-op only. You can play single player too if you have no friends. It's what I've been doing at work :(

    @udat
    Yes it does.

    I'd also just like to say (mainly because every post I have made in the last five days has included this) it's not a Tomb Raider. Crystal are working on two projects at the moment. This one is something new and different and also full of win.

    It seems like this is for me, I heart isometric.
  • dagas #18 2 years ago

    So they finally admit that the Tomb Raider games were about Lara and not the tombes and decided to call it Lara Croft instead of Tomb Raider. They need to branch out with this new strategy. Lara Croft's Cooking Mama, Lara Croft's Modeling Career, Shopping for Shoes With Lara Croft and Totally Lara Croft: Totally Party. Also Where in the World is Lara Croft, but best of all get the Imagine franchise from Ubisoft and make Imagine: Lara Croft. So much potential to attract both male and female players. You can even make a Lara Croft's Home for the Elderly.

    ...do my eyes deceive me, or are they turning Tomb Raider into an -isometric- shoot em up!? I mean, sure, the platforming was a little wonky, but seriously! This is the bottom of the barrel, and the geometry is ever so slightly angled to make it impossible for Laura to clamber back out.

    Just to reiterate....

    Crystal are currently working on two projects. This isn't a Tomb Raider, but something new and different :)
