Lair delayed

In case you were wondering.

Good old Lair for PS3 has been delayed by at least a couple of weeks according to retailers speaking to Eurogamer, with the game now listed as 23rd November by many.

The swoopy-around Factor 5 dragon-riding game - which for better or worse makes extensive use of the Sixaxis motion sensor - has been out across the pond for some time, but we're still waiting on it over here.

We had expected to finally get our hands on it tomorrow, but apparently it's not to be due to an unspecified manufacturing issue - although Sony hasn't confirmed the reason for the delay at the time of writing.

For more on Lair, check out our Lair gamepage, home to all sorts of videos and screenshots, and of course our Lair review.

    Uh... ok. Sure. Whatever.
  • el_pollo_diablo #2 4 years ago

I could make a joke about what that "unspecified manufacturing issue" might be, but it'd be too easy.
  • Nick261007 #3 4 years ago

Good news, maybe they could delay it until 2020 to make it great news. If you buy this game you are part of the problem.

And oh yeah, PS3 lol, this game was supposed to be GOTY material.
  • urban #4 4 years ago

no big deal i won't be buying it.

"has been out across the pond for some time, but we're still waiting on it over here."

Is this common for PS3 titles? I mention this only because 360 US/UK ship date for 360 titles normally only seem to be about a week apart. HS was pretty close wasn't it?

You really gotta ask what the hell happened though. They managed to make the Rogue Squadron games really cool, and traditionally licenses are a touch of death. Here they pursue something completely open and formable and they end up with tosh. It's ironic for a while, then it's puzzling and annoying.

    @Nick261007
For someone who absolutely hates the PS3, and I'm going by your flurry of recent intelligent comments, why do you feel the need to go on every PS3 news article and give stupid criticisms such as PS3lol?

Quite frankly I wouldn't expect something so juvenile from an 8 year old, or so biased from a MS employee.
  • Blerk #8 4 years ago

Someone at Sony finally realises that releasing a fairly poorly-received first-party game on the same day as a very well-received first-party game is probably quite a bad idea. ^_^
  • Darren #9 4 years ago

I have Lair and while it's no classic, it isn't that bad either. However, the game is a disappointment, however you look at it. I think Factor 5 made a big mistake forcing the SIXAXIS controls on the gamer and it's clear the game is pushing the PS3 to its limits and beyond, what with the tearing and shaky framerate. If they were fixed then the game would be much better but I doubt even those improvements would put it into the "great" category. It seems inevitable that this game will be a huge flop in Europe as it didn't particularly do very well in the US and a lot of people will be wary of it from the critical panning it got.

    Game delayed....big deal
  • Eighthours #11 4 years ago

Apparently the delay is caused by no age rating being on the box. Whoops.
  • Steroyd #12 4 years ago

    Ralf: I like Dragons.
  • boynash101 #13 4 years ago

I heard the delay was due to machines refusing to print such a crappy game on a disc?

    lolz

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Why is the world so cruel!
  • bonker #19 4 years ago

"Apparently the delay is caused by no age rating being on the box. Whoops. "

They got the ratings mixed up and printed "4/10" instead.
  • Xerx3s #20 4 years ago

Wait, I thought this was released weeks ago. 0_o

/reads side effects label on portal gun

Ah, Orange Box. You're going to love this, PS3 owner! Unless EA fuck up the PS3 port. But how likely is that?

Firstly, I thought it was already out.

Secondly, what the fuck is with them announcing the delay the DAY BEFORE RELEASE?
  • bdc #23 4 years ago

    Delay it forever please
  • Bumhug360 #24 4 years ago

"Firstly, I thought it was already out.

Secondly, what the fuck is with them announcing the delay the DAY BEFORE RELEASE? "

    Maybe the two are related.

Sony employee 1 (looking at latest charts): I am amazed Lair hasnt made the charts, those poor reviews have really hurt sales
Sony employee 2: Hmm looking on play.com they have the release date as tomorrow
Sony employee 1: What! we released it weeks ago.....didnt we
    Sony employee 2: Urm.........
    Sony empoyee 1 & 2: Bugger
  • krudd #25 4 years ago

Em... they have it sitting on a shelf in my local GAME...just not for sale yet....wtf?!!?!
  • Dead_Man_Typing #26 4 years ago

Release it on the same day as Guitar Hero 3, Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, then they'll have an excuse for it's poor sales.

    Other than it's crap.
  • derfs #27 4 years ago

its due to all stores recieving the game and pointing out to sony its illegal to sell it, as it doesnt have a bbfc label on the disc itself!

GAME have it, they just cant sell it thanks to sony.
  • thedaveeyres #28 4 years ago

The delay is due to the designers replacing the dragon models with White Elephants.
  • woodnotes #29 4 years ago

It's now going up against Mass Effect!? Not that anyone was going to buy it anyway, but... sent to die!
  • phatb0y #30 4 years ago

I'm quite gutted about this. I was really looking forward to my Franklin Mint Blu-Ray Dragon Coaster.
  • captainrentboy #31 4 years ago

''its due to all stores recieving the game and pointing out to sony its illegal to sell it, as it doesnt have a bbfc label on the disc itself''
Exactly right, I work in Game and we had 50 odd of them sent to us on Tuesday, only to be told Wednesday to send 'em back due to the above fuck up.
When this happens it normally delays the release by two weeks.
What I did find amusing was that we were going to have 50 of these, yet we only had 15 Ratchet and Clank for sale in today's delivery, clearly some of the bigwigs in our distribution centre haven't got a clue.
  • asphaltcowboy #32 4 years ago

Arent they just allowed to put stickers on it?
  • Triggerhappytel #33 4 years ago

    So... desperate last-minute improvements?
  • Garulon #34 4 years ago

    "So... desperate last-minute improvements? "

Well a BBFC rating will stop it being sold to some people, so yeah, humanity benefits I suppose?
  • bodypopper #35 4 years ago

Looks like this could dragon, and on...
  • Ghettomurph #36 4 years ago

A mate of mine managed to get a US copy of this the other day...and its utter pants. Wasnt this supposed to be a system seller?

Nice of them to put it out on the same day as Mass Effect though, great idea......
  • Goodfella #37 4 years ago

How strange, where I work (Comet) we had several copies in the delivery this morning.
  • tobsen #38 4 years ago

I will give them the benefit of doubt and believe that they have delayed it because they are adding regular analog stick control options.
  • Dead_Man_Typing #39 4 years ago

Ah, this happened with MGS Portable Ops too. No BBFC logo, we had to send our copies back.

Makes sense, I'm suprised Euro gamer's expert journalism was unable to uncover this fact and present it in the main article.
  • Garulon #40 4 years ago

"I will give them the benefit of doubt and believe that they have delayed it because they are adding regular analog stick control options. "

Quite astonishngly, I heard if you use a PS2 controller you can use regular analog stick options, which raises the question as to WTF they didn't even give you the option.
  • evad_lhorg #41 4 years ago

I work in GAME and we got the stock in yesterday
  • the_dudefather #42 4 years ago

stickers on the discs wont work, as they could mess up inside the console.

always wonder how this sort of thing happens so often, don't they check these things before they make thousands of them and ship them off? no check twice burn once rule in effect?
  • SeesThroughAll #43 4 years ago

Makes sense, I'm suprised Eurogamer's expert journalism was unable to uncover this fact and present it in the main article.

Newsflash: they're going to come out of the closet and rename the site xboxgamer. ;)
  • zedzee #44 4 years ago

LAIR is so bad, not even the BBFC can be bothered to rate it. Hence the delay!
  • MaxiSleep #45 4 years ago

If the rating thing is the issue then it pretty much sums up sony's year.
  • Nostromo13 #46 4 years ago

i don't care, but bodypopper made a damn good post.
  • Dizzy #47 4 years ago

Maybe they are patching the game a bit? Some Euro love?
  • drumm23 #48 4 years ago

I was thinking that about the Orange Box. You just know "frame", "issues" and "rate" will be words appearing in any review.
  • Yaz #49 4 years ago

"I think Factor 5 made a big mistake forcing the SIXAXIS controls on the gamer and it's clear the game is pushing the PS3 to its limits and beyond, what with the tearing and shaky framerate."

Yep, Lair is an example of how not to develop a game, where the enthasist was on technical accomplishment rather than gameplay.

From the start, the focus of this game was 1080p and SIXAXIS control, not gameplay or design. This was Factor 5 trying to please their 'masters' instead of doing what was best for the game, because it was the kind of game Sony was calling out for, to justify their hype about 1080p and motion control on the PS3.

So because Factor 5 promised 1080p and motion control in Lair and bragged about pushing the PS3 further than anyone else (Factor 5 should ban Julian from talking sometimes :)), it seems they dug themselves into a hole! Therefore they couldn't (or wouldn't) do the sensible thing of lowering the resolution to 720p to improve the framerate (like other developers) and adapt the control method to make it less dependent on motion control. Of course, this alone wouldn't make it a great game, but it's that kind of thinking that could have given them a chance of putting their efforts into improving the gameplay, perhaps significantly.

Instead, the result is the game you describe, one with incredibly low review scores for such a high profile game.

Luckly there are many other game abouve this on my list its just one more being delayed (one with an average review of 53%) so it hardly matters

Like darren said hope fully they are improving the game for the EU release

Just been to Tesco and Asda and both have Lair on the shelves.
  • Ryze #53 4 years ago

    ? Not out YET??

    Just don't bother.
  • Ryze #54 4 years ago

Hold on... no BBFC label on the disc... this happened on PSP MGS: PO.

I really think that they've go monkeys or saboteurs working for them.

Some people in Sony must either be extremely stupid, or really pissed off.

Advice: sack 'em and move operations to the North of England. It'd cost them less than London in the long run and then they'd have less excuse for ridiculous pricing.

Just keep a small token office with meeting / hospitality facilities in the LDN.
  • Penguinzoot #55 4 years ago

Lair was on the shelf yesterday at my local Asda, but unfortunately R&C was sold out :-(. Just have to make do with COD4 I guess.
