Konami teases next Metal Gear

Colour scheme, images suggest Xbox.

Konami has whipped up a website teasing the next Metal Gear game.

The image shows an upside down exclamation mark, a plus symbol, a normal exclamation mark, an equals sign, and what looks like a power button - an Xbox 360 power button.

Underneath are the words, "A NEXT METAL GEAR IS..."

Add to that the black and nuclear-green colour scheme and the Microsoft connotations are strong. It's no secret that the Xbox 360 maker is desperate to sign one of Sony's last great exclusives, after all.

Hideo Kojima has said he will unveil his next game sometime next year, with the Tokyo Game Show most people's pick of the where and when.

However, the Metal Gear creator has expressed a wish to move away from managing the series, and instead hand the reigns to the junior members of his team.

Still, excitement and that.

    The only thing suggesting that is the green colour...

    It looks more like the Wii symbol at the start, or even the iPhone?

    Or perhaps its showing all the consoles and the end to the sentence is " A Next Metal Gear is multiplatform" ?

    Kojima may not be involved and aslong as his next game is a new ZOE i dont really care. No doubt MS wil try anything to get it on the 360 as well.

    Looks like a 'Acid' version of the game..

    Depends. The colour isn't the exact 360 colour. The power icon isn't the exact 360 icon. Put both together in this context however... Was inevitable wasn't it because unlike the article tries to suggest, mgs has never been an exclusive franchise. It's been on the cube, pc, xbox, etc.

    Not that it really matters. It will be interesting to see if it's mgs4 and if so, how much of this "NEEDS T3H POWA OF BLURAY!" is true.

    As i said a 'Acid' version for 360...so a version of metal gaer. EG seriously crap writing and some research would of been good. Still surviving via the fanboys EG??

    I ll bet my entire gaming collection that the next game will be a multi platform one! With credit crunch, few devs not owned by MS/Sony would dare go exclusive and cut off a great proportion of the market and their profit being halved.

    Yeah seem to suggest AC!D but we ll see.

    I don't understand how the gaming world gets all wet over these games. Bring it to the 360 if you like, but I won't buy it. I'd rather spend the £40 on 4 decent DVDs, than listen to 20 hours of Kojima's sci-fi wet dream.

    My money's on a multi-disc port of MGS4 for Xbox 360. Konami spent mega millions developing it and the user base for PS3 isn't big enough to accomodate that kind of budget - they were expecting to ship at least 1m copies and (according to Sony's awards yesterday) only managed just over 500,000. They'll sneak it across to Xbox with a few corners cut (and probably a load of lame VR missions) and hope to recoup some of the dev costs.

    I never understand where people get the 'MGS4 is just a movie' from.
    I have absolutely zero interest in the story line and skipped all the scenes and it still is the best game Ive played this year.
    I played through it twice, once killing everything in sight and once not killing anyone. It was like playing a completely different game.

    hmm, (most) online multiplayer games have zero story and yet most people (ie geeks on this site) I would guess spend far more time on that part of the game than on the single player. Warhawk has no story what-so-ever and so far I have wasted 100 hours of my life on that game.

    I did back in the mists of time. But then again, I didn't like MGS2, missed 3, and bad memories of 2 stopped me playing 4. But when I did, it was quite good.

    How you got the 360 power button from the universal symbol for "power on" is something that only you can know. Wha... my PS3 has a 360 power button. And my computer screen! God, my TV set (a Sony one, too) has the 360 power button. Wh... my PC power button even is green!

    Well. Looking at the teaser you could come up with about 10000 conclusions about that. I can see where people are going with the i + !(MGS alert) = ON though. Although if it is something for the DSi or iPhone, I can't see it being a fully fledged "traditional" MGS game, which would be a shame. Also MGSTactics perhaps?

    To be honest I would want more "big up" console MGS's... esp considering all the effort they put into their graphics engine!

    Well my thought was also Xbox when I saw the teaser but mostly befause of the endless MGS4-on-360-soon stories and the green color ;)

    It more sounds like a Metal Gear game for Wii or iPhone/Touch.. maybe Metal Gear Acid.

    @ muscleblade, you're right..., about the "unatural" speach that happened back there. But that guy only comments comments, and do judging without knowing me from anywhere. Plus it make an assumption tottaly wrong, I said I couldn't play a game like MGS without paying close atention to its strongest point (IMO), the plot.

    You're right - I was getting my info from the PlayStation Awards. MGS4 got a gold one (sales between 500k and 1m), but I now realize that's for Japan only. In fact, VGchartz seems to think they've shifted 3.55m copies, which probably recouped their investment quite nicely (even bearing in mind some people's concerns with VGchartz methods). So it's likely I was way off.

    Even so, there's no doubt MGS4 was a massive-budget game and Konami would be mad to overlook the number of 360 owners who want a slice of MGS action,especially in view of its recent success in Japan.

    Wikipedia is not a trustworthy source, it can be written by anyone, why on earth would people choose to trust something like that? WHY?!?!?!?!

    As for MGS, I find them tedious, but I can see why the fourth instalment was a great game. I tend to think the aceeeeeeeeed connections would be true, but who knows, perhaps Konami have a Christmas present for us.

    Another theory:

    First is an exclamation mark flipped 180 degrees. Then flipped again for another 180 degrees. Then there is a circle, which is 360 degrees.

    180 + 180 = 360

    You have to REALLY want to see it.

    MGS4 was the best game of 2008 and the only reason so far to buy PS3 if you are not interested in Blu-Ray.

    As people say,even if you skip hours of cut-scenes,it still provides very ''solid'' gameplay,guns-blazing or sneaking.

    360 port would be hard to make,but Konami are not gonna miss such an opportunity.

    Not many discussions on the design decision by Konami on the precise way they have put together the teaser and what reaction they hoped to garner?!

    Dont tell me they didnt know that one kind of association would be with X360, and the ! seem too obvious to be AC!D but then again what other possibilities?

    Perhaps will be downloadable XBL/PSN HD MG AC!D, I just wish they dont tease us and get shitstorm kicked up until the truth get out! Perhaps not decided on the port to X360 until they see the size/level of the reactions and hence why putting out hazy feelers? They may be wetting themselves reading comments from sites round the world!
