Konami confirms PS2 re-issues
Demand brings classics back.
Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer that it is reissuing old PS2 games to shops, as a keen-eyed EG reader suspected.
"They are proper reissues," a spokesperson told us. "Konami has put them out at budget price because of demand. They are re-manufactured. They are ours."
Those PS2 games are Suikoden Tactics, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. And they will soon be joined by Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4.
"We've manufactured certain amounts depending on the title," the spokesperson added, "and they're being bought by wholesalers so will likely pop up in independent rather than chain stores."
The games will be priced between £10 and £20, we're told.

Found that purely by accident for £19.99 the other week \o/ Apparently it has been known to go for like £65 on Ebay!
Anyway good for them, far too many pubs/devs forget that some may actually still want their games. I wonder, is this a sign they know something we don't about a certain non B/C machine

More people should DEFINITELY play Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, that game is incredible. And I've been meaning to play Silent Hill 2.

Until all PS3's can play PS2 games, Sony aren't missing much as most of the 23.8m PS3's out there don't have BC. It also stops people from buying games that they cannot play because unfortunately, many people don't pay attention to things like compatibility and will assume that if it's available to buy, it will work. Then they will blame Sony for making it available in the first place.

What if these re-releases are a sign that the imminent, redesigned PS3-slim will regain backwards compatibility?

SH2 is the best of the lot imo. Well worth tracking down. I could only play it in shortish doses, as I just found it too wearing to play for long periods of time. You can only have so much adrenaline before your head starts to go weird

First rule of mine... DONT trade in 'classical' title!
When you look back and see what you traded in for say ICO and got FIFA04 or summat? Certainly wasnt worth it next to the golden dust that is ICO or other of its calibre.
Great that PS2 get reissues and sad that lots of PS3 owners wont have fun unless a) They still got working PS2 b) the launch PS3 60gb model or c) SONY DAMN come out and confirm they will update all PS3 with software emulation.
They PATENTED the PS2 emulation codings, so I m sure this will be cooooomming anytime soon!

I wish I could play ZOE 1 and 2 on my PS3 though. *sad face*
Hopefully ZOE2 will be available for download and ZOE3 is in the making. Hopefully.

You know what, after this article I've been thinking about MGS all day! I reckon Substance and Subsistance willl get a go in a little while. Hooray for Friday night in \o/
/ beats up girlyman Raiden, puts on Snake Eater (AWESOME theme!), grabs the boot polish and eats a snake...alright it's a earthworm. No snakes in SE London sadly......

Last I heard about the PS2 was when they made that cut down slim line version, that was years ago.

B. "Dev cycles for PS3 are extortionate and we've got MS/Nintendo knocking on our door, so let's pretend we still like Sony."
C. "These have been in our warehouse in Mozambique for a trillion years now and we've just been waiting for the right moment to flog them and pretend we're reissuing them."
D. "We didn't make enough Subsistence, because it cost too much to make and we made a loss on it, so let's get rid of all the Substance copies we've got in that Mozambique warehouse and hopefully people will be stupid enough to buy it, while we work out how to sell it cheaper digitally, through PSN in the near future."
E. "Shit, the PS2 is making a bit of a come-back but we've trashed all our dev kits now. So, how do we sell something in that market? I know - let's flog our old stock sitting on the shelves in our warehouse in Mozambique! Brilliant...Sold!!!"
Take your pick...

Its not like Konami dont have a track record of expanding titles for re-release in the west. For example the platinum re-issue of SH2 had the "Born From a Wish" extra-scenario that was previously exclusive to the Xbox version.

without the radar from previous mgs games, you constantly rn into the sighlines of guards you couldn't see, because the camera only shows 3 feet ahead of you... the only solution was to tap R1 for first person camera every 5 seconds...

They should put it as Eurogamer.CO.UK if it is british

Suikoden I and II, Castlevania SOTN, Vandal Hearts I and II, Track and field, MGS + Special Missions to name but few.
Since these would all be compatible with PS2 I see no harm in putting these on a disc or 2 for a tenner.
