Kojima at Oxford Street HMV today

Signing pre-orders from noon onwards.

HMV has boasted that its Oxford Street store in London will be housing Metal Gear Solid 4 creator Hideo Kojima this afternoon.

He will be there from 12pm onwards signing pre-ordered HMV-exclusive sleeves for his upcoming game.

Note that there are only 300 of these and you will need to dish out a GBP 5 deposit to reserve your copy. Otherwise it is first come first served.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is due out for PS3 on 12th June.

Head over to our MGS4 review to find out why you could "not ask for a funnier, cleverer, more ambitious or inspired or over-the-top conclusion to the Metal Gear Solid series".

With only 300 copies available its a good job you gave us pleanty of warning......
  • monkie_king #2 4 years ago

Hmm, that HMV is a tiny cramped mess at the best of times, how are they going to fit Kojima and his ego in there?
  • bad09 #3 4 years ago

"I'm going to run up to him and scribble 8/10, and Xbox rulz on his forhead in permanent ink."

    LOL!
  • AusFreelancer #4 4 years ago

Nah you wouldn't, your pen would overheat at the anticipation...just like your xboxes .... :p (its a jooooke, get over it)
  • McGeeza #5 4 years ago

Or you could ask him to sign your copy and when he asks your name take a 90 minute phone call before telling him...
  • Psiloc #6 4 years ago

"Just incase there are any of Kojima's Ninja's reading this, I'm not really going to visit Mr Kojima today to scrawl fanboy slogans across his head, was just aving a larf."

If they were, you'd already be dead.
  • penhalion #7 4 years ago

If anyone has a phone with the codec ringtone please please please go down there and get someone to call you just as you get to the head of the queue. I will also accept someone going as an orange box or a metal oil drum. Even a very tall bearded old man dressed as snake will do......

    come on it's for a laugh.....anyone......oh well.

Seems like an extravagence for an 8/10 game tbh.
  • thedaveeyres #9 4 years ago

Queue up wearing nothing but a cardboard box. See how long you can 'stealth' before security throws you out.
  • aine #10 4 years ago

i wonder if he'd sign my bootleg copy of metal gear solid for the gameboy. the box is blurry as hell and has text from street fighter alpha on the back, but the cartridge is white plastic and actually looks really nice (really!)
  • aine #11 4 years ago

actually i don't wonder that at all, i wonder if he'd sign my penis
  • dadrester #12 4 years ago

he should turn up half an hour before closing time ...

    "kept you waiting huh?"

  • keyboardmonkey #13 4 years ago

I rate this news 8/10 ooh controversial.

Doh! should read all comments before posting, some one beat me to it.

Do you think he'll yell "SNAAAAAKEE!!" every few minutes?
  • keyboardmonkey #15 4 years ago

So how much do you reckon he's getting paid for this little PR stunt my estimate would be.. mm let me see

    300 x 5 = 1500 GBP.

And i reckon he will have signed all 300 in less than 60 minutes.

He can now afford to buy himself a PS3 ;)
  • Psiloc #16 4 years ago

I'm gonna sneak up and tap the wall next to him.

"What was THAT noise?" /question mark above head
  • DFawkes #17 4 years ago

Then get in a box. "Hmm, just a box." And he'll go back to his business, despite a box appearing where there clearly wasn't a box before.
  • Widge #18 4 years ago

I'd rather someone does the MGS4 inchworm move across his signing table
  • Wyrm #19 4 years ago

Has anyone got a link to Konami's list of things we aren't allowed to say to him?
  • DFawkes #20 4 years ago

Say what you like, he has nanomachines that turn it into gibberish, namely English. I'm fairly sure he can't speak it, in fact I read in an old interview for MGS1 he couldn't even speak common Japanese, he spoke a regional dialect and sometimes needed a translator. The interview was in the Official Playstation Magazine in the good old PSone days, if anyone has those and wants to dig it out, had Ninja on the cover. Why do I even remember that? Stupid nerd memory.
  • penhalion #21 4 years ago

    @widge

We should combine all of the things mentioned in a single queue so he sits at the table and sees

    1. A mixed line formed of boxes and oil drums.
    2. Hears tapping on the walls behind him but, turns to see only a large crate marked oranges.
    3. Some nameless guy inches his way across the signing desk.
    4. The sound of a codec bleeping a few times followed by a disembodied voice yelling "SNNAAAAKKKKUUUUUU"
    5. Guys with quiestion marks over their heads looking around suprised.
    6. last but not least guys just sliding themselves along walls and peeking around corners for no reason.

    I wonder what he'd do.
  • Aloominum_man #22 4 years ago

How about insisting on chatting to him for 90 mins before allowing him to sign your pre-order?
  • Beano #23 4 years ago

"How about insisting on chatting to him for 90 mins before allowing him to sign your pre-order? "

He... but I assume he will skip the chat and go directly to the signing ;)

    @evilfoxhound

You forgot GoW2, but I can hardly blame you. Noone with a PS3 wants to accept that after months of "2008 is our year lol mgs4 lbp lol xbots am cry" it's all gone a bit tits up...

    I also am kidding.

Penhalion: I wouldn't be entirely surprised if that's actually how he views the world on a normal day-to-day basis.
  • gooners2006 #27 4 years ago

i went to the signing....not as good as the FFXII launch.....no Q&A and just a load of morons shouting "KO-JIMA, KO-JIMA" what was worse was that the HMV staff looking after the PS3 that was connected up to the big screen kept on pressing the circle button so the MGS4 pic kept on disapearing and going onto the XMB :S
One thing i didnt know before going was there were 3 people singing, Kojima, the artist guy (dunno his name) and some random bird who is a voice actress and is one of the Beauty and the Beasts, cheers random girl you just brought down the price of the signed sleeve all by yourself
  • penhalion #28 4 years ago

    @gooners2006

Not everyone's cup of tea but, I've been rude enough at signings before to ask the additional signers to not sign my particular sleeve or book etc. etc. It doesn't go down well but, thenh again it aint them spending the money for the product.
  • mmulho #29 4 years ago

I went to the signing. I didn't get a game cover, there was not enough so i didn't get that (300 yeah right). They wouldn't let anyone in the queue if u didn't get a cover so i couldn't even get my Snake Eater signed. Oh well.
  • Razorus #30 4 years ago

Did anyone ask him to make ZOE3 for PS3 and a new Policenauts game for the Wii, like I suggested. I couldn't go to the signing myself, Uni and all that. But I would have loved to kidnap him.
  • spongebob #31 4 years ago

Snake Eater is a Freudian term if there ever was one :)
  • gooners2006 #32 4 years ago

mmulho - yeah the line was well long and it went round the corner but there definitely wasnt 300 there, the only way you could have got in was with the sleeve otherwise it would have been more manic than it was.

Razorus- not questions were allowed to be asked cos Kojima didnt really understand us :p all he could say was hello (alltho he did sound like George Takei) and goodbye but we could take a pic of him posing with our sleeves, and he was willing to sign any additional MGS stuff you had alltho the security guards werent too pleased

@the_az - im not saying that she wasnt beautiful, i completely agree with you there but someone with a bigger part would have been better
  • gooners2006 #34 4 years ago

i think David Hayter would be at the US one....maybe the voice of Raidon or Roy Campbell
