Koei sizes up 2007 News

PlayStation 2 DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

27 March, 2007

Koei has revealed that it will release eight games this year, unveiling some previously unheard of titles in the process.

One of these is G1 Jockey for Wii, which is expected sometime in June. A version of this game appeared last May for PlayStation 2, complete with its very own horse-racing peripheral to simulate rein control, and turned out to be a great niche title but impossible to mark.

Unfortunately Koei was unable to tell us what will be different in the Wii version, though it expects an announcement will be made soon.

Nintendo fans will also be excited by Prey The Stars DS, which is described as a cross between Pac-Man and Katamari Damacy, due for release in the third-quarter of this year.

The aim of the game is to eat your way around various levels, progressively getting larger and eating bigger things, eventually gobbling up things like buildings and busses. You'll also be able to enjoy the experience with up to three friends, racing to become big enough to stuff them all into your swelling belly. Pop over to our Prey The Stars DS gallery for the latest screenshots.

Also making its way to DS is Dynasty Warriors: Fighters Battle, which will let you decide the fate of ancient China on your way to work, or whilst you're on the toilet. We're told to expect an action offering rather than a turn-based affair, and its due for release in the third quarter of the year.

Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers can expect a new game in Orochi Warriors, due for release in October. This will squash all of the fighters from Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors under one roof, combining their forces to tackle an ancient demon. It's a nice break from historical accuracy for Koei, who will venture into the mythical Orochi folk lore for inspiration this time around.

On top of all this we can expect Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner for PS2 on 27th April, as well as Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War and Fatal Inertia on Xbox 360 and PS3 in Q3 2007.

Quite a line-up, lets hope it's as good as it sounds.

That is a hell of a lot of characters, hope there is tactical elements like the Empires versions of these games, can't get enough of them at the moment :-)

Musou Orochi (or Ororchi Warriors) is really great on the PS2. Not only does in slam together all the warriors, it adds the ability to switch between three fighters during combat and takes the Samurai Warrirors 2 level up system another step closer to RPG by allowing players to distribute the points.
It's great that it's coming out on the Next gen consoles and not just PS2.

Do the DDS (SMT/Digital Devil Saga/Devil Summoner) games work back comp. on PS3? It's just the official list doesn't even MENTION THESE GAMES AT ALL!... 8(

On happier matters; how similar is Orochi to DW? Is Orochi an RPG, but featuring characters from the two series, or is there still a war going on, out there?

Lucifer's Call works on PS3. I've got the US DDS so I can't check those. Hopefully Devil Summoner will work.

"Not that you'll be able to tell the difference:-("
Oh yes you can. Trust me on a HDTV, the PS2 version looks pretty bad. I was really praying it was gonna come out on at least the 360 and PS2 if not the PS3.

It uses the same base material as DW (The same way Samurai Warriors does) but it adds a lot and changes a lot. The biggest change being (and most important to a lot of non-DW fans) that you wont be fighting the battle of ChiBi, or Guan Yu's escape or He Fei Castle (not that those are bad) but intstead it's a completely original story that allies character from DW with SW.
Personally I really want a triple team of Sima Yi, Zhang He and Ranmaru :)

The difference in the Wii version of G1 Jockey is that you use the remote and nunchuk as the reins and whip, I'm not sure what else anyone could really ask for.

Glad I decided not to pick up Musou Orochi on PS2 now, it would have only meant spending too much money to buy the treasure box, now I can wait for a shiny HD version.
