Koei dates Wii Jockey News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

29 March, 2007

Koei has just galloped into view with new information about upcoming Wii horse adventure, G1 Jockey.

It'll be out on 29th June, and lets horse-racing fanatics delve into whole new level of immersion. Hopefully not like on "Animal Passions".

You see, your Wiimote hand will clutch a menacing whip that you'll use to gain those extra vital yards, whilst your nunchuk hand will take the reins, guiding your gee-gee around the gambling arena.

The challenge is to tackle the career mode and rise from rookie to horse-racing legend, brutally flogging your horse to meet those winning credentials. And, once you feel the need to retire from the hustle and bustle of the saddle, you can set about creating your own stable of thoroughbreds, hand raising a throng of mares to give silly names to, like "Saddleflaps" or "Bertie".

All of this is what Koei reckons will set its four-legged racer apart from the, er, crowd.

"We're hoping that this game will make all horse racing games before it look like a right load of old pony and have gamers trotting down to their local store to back a genuine winner and be first past the post with the greatest horse racing game ever," said Will Curley, KOEI Sales Manager.

Pop over to our G1 Jockey Wii gallery for the latest screenshots.

G1 Jockey 4 launched for PS2 last year, and turned out to be a great niche title that was impossible to score. Gallop over to our review to find out more.

It is just one of the game's the publisher has lined up for this year. Head elsewhere on Eurogamer to take a look at Koei's 2007 line-up.

Anyone look at those screenshots?

What does the "Create New Horse" button make people think of?
I can see two options here: "Construct from spare parts of retired horses" and "Convince two horses that love each other very much to procreate"

Is this game going to be an 18?

Doesn't sound like my kind of game (even without the animal porn), but I'm sure someone out there has been waiting for this kind of game O_o

Oh, and Rirekon: You're gay!
Will that do?

I think it is probably aimed more at the japanese market, where horse racing arcade games are massively popular (no, seriously).

(Honestly, you complain when you don't get the quirky japanese games released over here, and then you complain when you do... *mutter* *mutter* *mumble*)

Kids game.

In the PS3/360 version Harry Potter stabs the horse in the head then waves his willie at you.

In hi-res.

It's great (if you're over 14)

Dougs: Fuck off with the 'sadly'! Whoever your mate is, I'm not sure why an interest in horse racing and hence wanting to play a horse racing game is any different to an interest in golf and wanting to play TW2007. The G1 Jockey games are fantastic if you're into horse racing, and this is one of about four games that actually have me on the verge of buying a Wii so far.

It doesn't get any more cheesy than this:

Bah. Idiots. Dunno about UK, but where i live, little girls are about 110% horse fanatics. They either go riding, want go go riding, draw horse pictures, want to own a horse etc etc. Most parents can rather afford Wii with this game then a real horse... so wouldn't diss it so lightly.

Just that this game isn't your cup of horse piss, or my cup of horse piss, but there are quite a lot people who may just like it.
