Ignition plans to release a King of Fighters Collection for Wii, PS2 and PSP this winter.
Inside The Orochi Saga are five yearly updates to the SNK 2D fighting series, starting from the very first game in 1994, all the way up to 1998.
King of Fighters was originally envisaged as a way to pit characters from outings such as Fatal Fury and Art of Fighter against each other.
Judging by the amount of sequels, the series has evidently been popular down the years. King of Fighters '94 also recently popped up on Virtual Console and earned 8/10 from us.
Five games, over 60 fighters, 2D graphics and a Colour Edit Mode. Worth a punt, perhaps - if you like that sort of thing.

Sounds good to me. I bought the Metal Slug Collection because it was such a good way to catch up a game series that I'd neglected and found out what I was missing. While I'm very familiar with the KoF games, collections like these are such an easy way to catch up without the daunting prospect of having to track down the original games.

May as well have put '99 in there and have the whole collection out on PAL territories. Well, just as long as they don't pull a Metal Slug on the PS2 version I'll be sure to get it when it's out, which judging from the announcement to actual release ratio of SNK titlles by Ignition over the last year or so it could very well be by the time the PS4 rolls out.

They couldn't put '99 in there, as that is the first part of the NEST's saga, and tis is the Orochi saga.
Looks like we'll have to wait. But XII soon please. |

Looks like we'll have to wait. " The Orichi saga spans three titles, this collection includes five. I would prefer completion to a false pretense of storyline cohesion any day of the week. Seeing as KoF 2000/2001 was already released, by Ignition no less, they already published 2/3 of the NEST's saga. I don't think they will be doing another release that includes KoF99 so that will probably leave that game as the only one unpublished here. Speaking of which, where's Mark of the Wolves? |

If any other PS3 owners are interested, a good few of the PSOne versions of KoF games are available on the Hong Kong PS Store.

Brilliant news. I've been waiting for something like this since Art of Fighting Anthology and also been kinda disappointed that there are so many of these collections available in the US (Fatal Fury Battle Archives, World Heroes Anthology etc.) but not over here.
What I really want to know though, is will Ignition bring the PS2 version of KOF 98: Ultimate Match to these shores? I know its scheduled for a XBLA release but I don't have a 360. |

Why put '99 in there and leave that Saga unfinished? KoF '98 is a Dream Match, it just features all of the characters up to that point, and other than character ties, has no real plot point. The Orochi Saga ended in '97 and the games before it (even Rugal's scenarios) all tie into the Orochi saga.
