Killzone: Liberation demo News

Those of you who dilly-dallied back in November about whether or not to buy Killzone: Liberation, can now try it out for yourselves.

Simply wiggle your right hand in a fashion that directs you to the Killzone Website, and download the free demo.

Contained in this cheerful little chestnut is one complete single-player mission and a lone multiplayer map.

Killzone: Liberation is a third-person shooter for the PSP developed by Guerrilla, and bridges the gap between the first title on PS2 and the upcoming PS3 version.

The game sees you reprise your role as the battle-hardened Templar, struggling tirelessly against the Helghast threat. Catch up with what we thought when we reviewed it last year.

Has decent production values but seems needlessly harsh from the demo level. Nearly one hit kills from homing rockets that you might see too late and laser trip mines that you'll probably end up jerking into because the analogue nub doesn't really take small nudges very smoothly.

Got this for christmas, think its amazing, missions levels are a good length, great multiplayer and loads of mini games to unlock, lots of replay value

It's a good game but it would be better WHEN THEY RELEASE THE BLOODY INFRASTRUCTURE PATCH.

I really enjoyed the game, and really, if you got hit with a rocket launcher you WOULD be dead. It's not too difficult imo. You can just roll out of the way.

And I never jerked into the lasers, that was surprisingly easy imo. Not that that is the games fault ;)

I got the demo few days ago and the production values are great and the general gameplay seems very fun and very deep. It wouldn't really be my type of game (I prefer Japanese games infinately to western ones) so I won;t be picking it up, but the demo is deifnately worth the download.

Cracking game... one of my games of the year last year on any format!

People who say its too hard are missing the point, its not an out and out shooter, its more about tactics and moving slowly through levels taking out people one at a time.

Gears of War didn't invent the use of 'cover' this game is all about it!

It's nice to be able to practice multiplayer levels on your own to learn your way around the weapon pick-ups, hopefully this means I won't get insta-spanked when they eventually release the Infrastructure mode.

I also can't think of many games where I expected to survive getting a rocket in the face, so I don't consider that to be a bad thing in the demo.

This is OT but I'm among the few who enjoyed Killzone on the PS2. Granted, it had its flaws and didn't deliver on many aspects, but it was top fun regardless. Had it implemented vehicles and a bit of variety in enemy design it would have become my fave PS2 FPS. Black on the other hand is too short but it easily pips Killzone, therefore it's my definite PS2 FPS.

I was hoping Liberation would have been an FPS but seeing it turned out the way it did my interest in the PSP has waned to zilch once more. Pity :(

Sensational game. Makes me want to get into the franchise which would mean having to play the orig ps2 shooter. Hmm.

And if you're having probs logging in (error advising your account and/or pswd not valid) to get the demo delete all your 'yourpsp' cookies. Worked for me.

This great game is highly underrated. I think it's rocks, and it was my personal favorite of 2006. Gameplay is really fun, and the AI is sensational. Really, I thought it was on par with the great AI of Far Cry, with really smart and diverse enemy tactics. The line of sight shooting/hiding/covering gameplay is something that is implemented very clever. Only downside is the average story and voiceacting, and the controls with that analogue sticky are not ideal. Great gfx though, these guys are improving and improving every game, can't wait to see what they pull out of the PS3 with Killzone2.

Hooray, a demo for something I might actually want to play at last. On the strength of this I'm now tempted. The movement is a bit odd, tutorial leaves much to be desired. How do you roll? Also can you move the view at all? I spent a lot of time trying to line up shots on distant enemies only to have the camera drift off to something it thought I'd be more interested in.

BTW it's latest firmware (3.03? 3.02? Something around there) only for the demo.

Open the EBOOT in a hex editor, and you can lower the requirement. It always works for firmwares sharing the same encryption key.

Double tap the Left shoulder button to roll, helps duck under them pesky rockets.

I just cleared some dirty great 4-legged Metal Gear type tank at the end of Chapter 3, t'was a bugger, don't know how I'll get past it on hard. Glad it's a tough play though, should keep me occupied till the extra chapter and stuff are released.

Won't let me register on yourpsp.com, the lowest version PSP it goes down to is 1002, mine is 1001.
