Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite pack soon
Patch arrives tomorrow with downtime.
Guerrilla Games has announced a third pack of DLC for Killzone 2, and prepared fans for the arrival tomorrow of Patch 1.
The Napalm & Cordite pack has "flames and bolts and will fulfil the wishes of many of our weirdest fans", writes producer Sebastian Downie on the US PlayStation blog, probably not realising what the "weirdest fans" are actually after.
Specifically, his comments mean the addition of Flamethrower and Boltgun weapons, as well as Suljeva Cliffside and Arctower Landing maps.
More information on Napalm & Cordite will have to wait until later this week, although the post has accompanying pictures of the content. The two previous DLC packs, incidentally, cost GBP 4.79 / EUR 5.99 each.
Patch 1.28 arrives at 8am tomorrow, and servers will be down for a couple of hours during application. With the update comes extra power for online moderators, various gameplay tweaks plus additions to pave the way for the new DLC.
There's a full list of changes on the PlayStation blog.

There are plenty of EU servers using the beach head map, and a few for cruiser and southern hills. Never any for the bullet train thingy map though weirdly. Think I played it only once and with only two other players on it (and that was only to get the trophies).

I'm cerainly not the only one who gave up on this, otherwise excellent, game. Early on you saw loads of people online fine tuning their aim by strafing a little, instead of trying to adjust their angle of view!
Resistance 2, Halo 3, COD4 and Gears of War 2 all have perfectly calibrated acceleration on their analogue aiming, and no one complained about any of those games on release. Killzone 2's developers, on the other hand, had to rebuff numerous such complaints on forums and from the press.
"After carefully looking into this, reading the posts, talking to a lot of you directly and analyzing the controls at GG we have come to the conclusion that there are no changes required to the system. If at all, any changes to the controls would put the majority of people who have not had problems or have adapted out of whack, which may be more serious"
There's no smoke wihtout fire etc etc ....

Interesting. That is my own favourite litmus test for a decent stick FPS control system. If I finds myself doing that, I know its not a good sign.
And you are right, in this day and age there are several good examples to pinch.. err, I mean be inspired by... when building an sticks FPS control system. There is simply no excuse anymore. I know it doesn't bother lots of people, but I'm picky I guess.

In terms of aiming though you get used to it.

i had a look at my stats on killzone.com, i was at one point in the top 10000 now im down to 500000+ ish, AND theyve added new ranks etc, i like the amount of support theyre giving it.
hopefully i'll get it back intime to pick all 6 maps or whatever up for a tenner

20 something Euro for six maps is a bit of a ripoff, honestly. Drop the price and i might get back into online play and buy them

Its because the Halo system is STILL better than anything else out there. CoD is ok, but its snap aiming makes up for its failings. Halo just quite simply does it right.
And like I said, there is no excuse. Its even documentted ffs.
