Killzone 2 beta now 2008
Makes sense, really.
Sony US has said the planned Killzone 2 beta will not be out now until next year.
"We are hoping to do a beta but I don't think we'll have anything ready before this year is over... it is something we are working on for next year," a spokesperson told PSU.
Earlier this year developer Guerilla said it was definitely working on a public test to iron out the multiplayer part of its game, but gave no indication of when.
While the publisher has crushed a little bit of hope inside our hearts with its statement, we only ever really expected it around middle to late 2008 - when Killzone 2 is supposed to sit on shop shelves.
Killzone 2 is a futuristic shooter stuffed full of cinematic warfare not too dissimilar to Call of Duty 4. Pop over to our preview if that sounds like a good idea to you.

Or was the Killzone beta being this year nothing but rumours from day one?

What's me2me2 about a public beta?

Personally, hope its good. First one was ok, PSP game was ace and itd be nice to see the machine start delivering at last.

Or was it an assertion from the entirety of the gaming press that was never rebutted by Sony or the developer
Who had also added "Of course there is going to be a public beta, I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended."
From a developer who has been developing a PS3 game as long as anyone and games like Ratchet and Drake have already shipped on PS3, as well as the PS3 arriving a year later than expected, what’s taking them so long?
EDIT: forgot to add CoD 4 into the mix of top drawer PS3 already shipped titles.

Why is Sony US talking about a beta of a game made in Europe. /Sonyhateseuropeconspiracist

They're taking their time maybe?
I could ask the same about Socom 4, Wipeout PS3 and a few other games.

No, it's a reference to every fucking game these days that apparently has a marketing stunt disguised as a beta test. Name it a demo and nearly nobody plays it, name it a beta and people will be queuing in line and spamming forums to get into the 'exclusive free beta'.
I'm looking at you COD4. ¬_¬
EDIT: And TBF, KZ1 was a bad game, it's up to them to prove that KZ2 is anything but substandard.

"And TBF, KZ1 was a bad game..."
Can't comment, I've not played it...
"...it's up to them to prove that KZ2 is anything but substandard."
But Liberation was fantastic. Ultimately, a lot of people change jobs, whether games industry or not, so I've never really understood this "game x was great, so game x2 will also be great" (or conversly - x was cr*p, hence...).

Eh? What if it is actually a beta test? Calling it a demo would imply that it's a close approximation of the final product, whereas titling it 'beta' gives them a chance to iron out any bugs without people moaning about quality.
And quite frankly some other games BADLY needed a public beta *cough*Pro Evo 2008*cough*

Starts to become a chicken and egg situation.

That's down to the PS3 and Xbox 360 being more close to a PC nowadays, if neither had a Hard Drive to fix bugs and junk we wouldn't be seeing any public Beta's at all, just making use of what is there.
Test driving something out in the open can give you a infinitely much better feedback than internally testing something, so it's no surprise devs are "jumping on the bandwagon"

True. But I'm a sceptic of everything. Still, liberation was indeed quite entertaining which gives hope that they can make a good game. They admitted that KZ1 was rushed but it seems that they are taking their time with KZ2, which can only be good.

If COD4 wasn't a demo, I'm a RRR. The final game is even buggier than the 'beta' and I can't see how they changed anything for the better with it.

Maybe so but I'm a paranoid marketing-o-foob. ^_^

So how does them saying it will be 2008 mean its delayed? Or even warrent the headline "now 2008" implying it is delayed?

EG your doing it again! killzone was utter crud on the PS2. why do people think this will be the holy grail of gaming?
