Killzone 2 beta gets underway

Community and press invited to the party.

Sony and Guerrilla have begun a semi-public PS3 beta test for Killzone 2.

Press and some members of the community have been invited to join in, but there will be no discussing the content until next Thursday.

Killzone 2 was one of the star performers at the Eurogamer Expo, drawing crowds of onlookers admiring the top notch first-person visuals and gory shooting.

One attendee even remarked that the game looked quite a lot like that infamous target-rendered trailer shown at E3 2005. Much to our amusement, of course.

    Having played and enjoyed both KZ1 and KZ on the PSP and please forgive me for mentioning the H word

    I've always been immersed in the Halo universe, which had quite a rich story and even Master Chief who although pretty one dimensional was actually quite a interesting character.

    However I was never that emotionaly attached to Templar as a character he came off as pretty generic. If they can develop the characters I the new game then for me at least it will tremedously increase my gaming experience. I know most FPS dont have much in the way of story but if they do so much the better.

    At the moment graphically it looks stunning so but a little story development will make this a must have.

    Does that mean we can't talk about it? I played on it for a bit last night and thought it was excellent. It felt a bit like taking part in greatest film Ridley Scott never made.

    I assume it's a Sony embargo, but why exactly 1-week embargo on a beta?

    I got the private beta key over a month ago myself btw. but can't talk about it ;)

    Isn't this beta a bit early? Shouldn't they have waited til early next year to build the hype? Only a few days after the release of Resistance 2, and not even the EU release either.

    Not knocking the game, looks ace.

    I'm not sure how true this is, but if you managed to get into the closed beta, apparently if you delete that file, go to the store and your download list, you can download it again, but this time it will be for the open beta.

    Well this seems to be a proper beta, unlike a lot of more recent betas, which gives them enough time to make changes/fixes if problems arise.

    Why does this game always get more hype then Resistance when most people seem to prefer Resistance.

    It's very true I got an e-mail yesterday stating that, that was all I had to do.

    Why does this game always get more hype then Resistance when most people seem to prefer Resistance.

    It wasn't necessarily hype it garnered 99% attention from the infamous E3 05 trailer, and people were ready to pounce on Killzone the moment they saw a pixel out of place, with that said the "hype" seems justified, because R2's online is going to have a run for it's money IMO.

    To those that actually participate in the beta: As far as you can tell from the beta, would you say KZ2 is arcadey or tactical (slower paced)? Or is such a statement under embargo too... ;)

    I see... :) I loved the slower pace of SP in KZ1 TBH but I can understand that it wouldn't work as well in MP.

    Yes. Its an open beta but you still accept an NDA. I'm guessing the press has the same but at specific times they are allowed to release previews?

    Got The Killzone 2 Beta and couldn't be happier. the gameplay is amazing and the graphics are orgasmic. lol.
    its a must get game when it comes out. i cannot wait for a chance at the campaign. but i can honestly say the online competitive play is really intense and really life like. Killzone 2 Rocks.
