Aw, Keita rules.

Good on him for going against the grain and doing what he believes in.

He could always have made the game on the PC and avoided a ton of these constraints he mentions.

The world is a more interesting place with people like Keita Takahashi. Bravo to him for making such fun and unusual games.

So who does this anti-consumerist donate all his money to? Also, he claims the "higher ups" would glare at him because (presumably) the poor sales (which he apparently wanted), yet he implies the poor sales are because of the distribution choices that were made - surely the "higher-ups" are in charge of that, not he.

What a wank.

Of course he didn't use drugs. He actually made something, instead of staring at shiny things.

I'm sorry but the intro to 'We Love Katamari Demacy' is an acid trip. The Supreme being AKA god with a fire cracker for a head and flying through the air holding hands with mother nature as rainbows and petals fill the screen! all I have to say is lol and respect for getting that game past any board of directors.

I can only imagine what could have been said in those first meetings - for example 'I have an idea for a game where you start off the size of an ant and can roll a sticky ball that gets bigger and bigger until you've rolled the earth and all its surrounding planets into the sun!'

Thats not so bad of a pitch really, I'm betting the intro game later after the got the funding. The chasing down web site game sounds fun to be honest, not as the only why to view web sites of course but still a fun diversion. Personally I glad there are developers who are trying out the weird game ideas. where else would things like this and dinosaur safari etc come from.

This is quite charming.

There's undeniable irony in using a videogame to convey an anti-consumerist message. It's a bit sad in a way, really.

Legendary.

Also funny how he says people at Namco treat him, pretty damning of Namco these days if they dont like a creative person like Takahashi pushing them to do something new. Crucially he has a small but vocal following abroad to ensure he is able to get them released outside Japan, unlike other interesting Namco games that are never translated into english by Namco America and Europe.

Lol Takahashi is so cool, I wonder if he ever got to make those playgrounds, like he said he was going to after making We Love Katamari?

Also I think Takahashi should team up with Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, I don't know what they would come up with, only that it would beautiful.

The world needs people like Takahashi, they are the people who think so far outside the box it is a dot in the distance.

Long may he continue to give us games packed full of ideas other people cant even dream of.

I didn't get that impression at all from the game. If anything I thought it was beautiful.

When you make the first star you're like "these insignificant things combine to make something beautiful!", and the game ends with you rolling up continents resulting in a "ball of continents that is something beautiful". My interpretation of it was that it's a love letter to the beauty of the world and now it's about consumerism? I think I'll stick with my interpretation. :(
