Just the one DLC pack for Lair

Plus a title update, explains Sony.

Sony has explained to Eurogamer that Lair will only be getting one downloadable content pack this Thursday.

It had previously said there would be two packs (one paid-for, one free), but the second is actually a title update that will be applied when you run the game while online.

When you do, you will get the option to use analog controls, a targeting reticule, vibration support, PSP remote play support, 180/dash controls mapped to buttons. In addition the client-side leaderboard will get fixed.

The Diabolical Dragons Pack, on the other hand, adds a Poison Dragon and Wind Dragon to the mix. The former is big, strong, and slow, while the latter is small, fast, and fiddly. There are also some fresh music tracks in the concert hall.

However, there is still no word on how much it will all cost.

Pop over to our Lair review to find out why analog controls are a very welcome addition.

The free pack is good! Won't (and can't) buy the pay-for DLC.

Why don't they just let this game die!

It will be interesting to see if this actually makes Lair good, if nothing else.

If analogue controls make the game playable fair enough, could become a worthy successor to panzer dragoon. If not then it will truly be a shit game. Don't know myself, after negative reviews never tried it.

    But they did.

IGN says it's an improvement, but there's still enough broken in the non control aspects of the game to still rate highly on the suck-o-tron. But that said, there's loads of copies for buttons in the second hand bargain bin - might be worth a couple of quid now.

Pity though. Great concept, just mongo implementation. Maybe they'll scrape enoughsales to do a Lair II, and get it right next time.

I downloaded the all-in-one 246 MB Dragons and Upgrade pack for my US copy of Lair from the US PS Store this morning and it was *FREE* by the way. I didn't get any title update when I loaded the game though but the analogue controls and crosshair target are still listed under Options. Oddly when I originally loaded the game from my European account I received no prompt to update it either, which is what prompted me to try the US one instead.

P.S. Still pissed off that you cannot skip all those tedious intros, especially the overlong THX one... I mean what were Factor 5 thinking...? :o

Did they make any improvements to the engine itself (like reduced frame rate hiccups, etc.)?

No, it runs just the same, i.e. with slowdown and tearing, no changes at all.

A word of warning though... this update resets your save game so you lose all your progress and have to restart the game from scratch... great, eh? :/

That truely is ridiculous. What went wrong with Factor 5 after the first Cube RS?
